Publisher's Summary

Early on a cold Somerset morning, ten-year-old Alesha Daniels is reported missing by her father, a violent alcoholic. Her mother, a known drug addict, is found unconscious, but it’s her mother’s boyfriend the police are keen to trace.

As the hunt for Alesha gathers pace, a second local girl is taken, plunging another family into the depths of despair.

Cutting short his holiday, DI Nick Dixon races home to join the Major Investigation Team, but no sooner has he identified a network of local suspects than they begin to show up dead.

At odds with his superiors, Dixon is convinced the child abductions are anything but random, but nobody is prepared for the investigation to lead quite so close to home.

Can Dixon and his team crack the case before all the suspects are silenced? And will he find the missing girls before it’s too late?

Audio is not good

I doubt that I will finish this audio book the voices are driving me mad. The scottish accent is shocking and how they voices interact with each other is stilted Might be a good story but I wont be able to listen to much more 😝

Excellent as usual!

DEAD LOCK is Book 8 in Damien Boyd's DI Nick Dixon modern detective series. I've written reviews of the prior seven novels in the series. Boyd never disappoints. Narration is again by Napoleon Ryan. For a man with a deep voice he does a great job with female voices.

Five star book and 10 star narration..

I absolutely love the DI Nick Dixon books. This was involved the kidnappings of two 10 year old girls but they had nothing to do with each other, and thankfully neither girl was hurt.

Nick and Jane were on holiday when the first girl was taken and Jane, Nick's girlfriend, was called back home but Nick stayed behind so he wasn’t really even in the book until chapter 5 or 6, I forget which one. It was worth the wait though. You can always depend on Nick and Jane to solve the crimes so cleverly.

This was a really good book. Plus one of the bad guys got away so there will be another book. Yay!

No sex and the F-bomb was used 42 times.

As to the narration: *Sigh* I just love Napoleon Ryan. His voices are awesome, whether it’s a man’s voice or a woman’s, he great at either one. And his emotions when he reads are off-the-wall.

Loved it but got a bit confused

I really enjoyed this and loved all the previous books but I got a bit confused at the end. I may have been a bit distracted was listening on my iPod while I cleaned the house but I lost track of who some of the suspects were. I will have to listen again in a few months .

Shocking

The story is excellent but unfortunately the narration was truly awful. It was such a shame as I love Damien Boyd novels 😢.

The narration spoils a good book.

I do not enjoy writing negative reviews. Indeed I normally just don’t review if I haven’t got positive things to say, but I’m afraid this audio performance is really rather poor. It certainly doesn’t represent good value.

At a couple of points in the listening of the narration, I genuinely found myself wondering if it was a computerised voice. Intonation and inflection doesn’t seem to roll from one word to another. So often I would have to find myself re-playing in my mind the sentence I just heard, toying with a different intonation until the sentence made sense in the context of the story.

I’m sorry to say it, but it really is awful and I couldn’t recommend anyone spends money on this. It makes it awfully hard to follow the story.

In fact I am currently less than a third of the way through and I think that’s enough for me. I’ll read the the rest of it on my kindle.

Too many foul mouthed women .

This author seems to have a thing about foul mouthed women and bad language in general . I would suggest that he gets out into the real world , I’m familiar with a number of women police officers none of whom use foul language at any time . It must be a fetish of his .

Narration really awful

I wish I had read the reviews first.
I found the narration to be so awful that I couldn't concentrate on the story.
I failed to finish the book.

Story ok, narration terrible.

Normally like these books, have read all the previous instalments by kindle so was looking forward to seeing what the audiobook had to offer as I don’t often get time to sit with a book now. However, terribly disappointed in the narrators style, sounds like a cheap imitation at someone trying to add mystery to their tone, yes this is a crime story but this is borderline comical.
