16-årige Chris vokser op i Norge under Anden Verdenskrig. Han mærker krigen helt tæt på, da hans far bliver skudt af Gestapo. Det får Chris til at flygte op i fjeldene for at slutte sig til modstandsbevægelsen og kæmpe aktivt mod besættelsesmagten. Men da tyskerne i april 1945 bevæger sig op i fjeldene, må Chris blive voksen meget hurtigt og på en meget hård måde. Christian Bernhardsen blev født i Norge i 1923 og flyttede til Danmark i en ung alder. Han arbejdede i en årrække som journalist på Information, før han sprang ud som forfatter. Han står bag en lang række romaner og er særligt populær som forfatter til historiske romaner for børn og unge.
