Cleo van Laerhoven gaat vijf maanden studeren aan de University of Alberta in Canada. Ze heeft het aanvankelijk enorm naar haar zin, tot een van Cleo's docentes op een ochtend dood wordt aangetroffen. De politie denkt in eerste instantie aan zelfmoord.
