Publisher's Summary

When a high-ranking officer gallops into the quiet Mistyvales, he brings a warning that shakes the countryfolk to their roots. But for Aedan, a scruffy young adventurer with veins full of fire and a head full of ideas, this officer is not what he seems. The events that follow propel Aedan on a journey that only the foolhardy or desperate would risk, leading him to the gates of the nation's royal academy - a whole world of secrets in itself.

But this is only the beginning of his discoveries. Something is stirring in the land, something more ominous than the rising threat of hostile nations. Fearful travelers whisper of an ancient power breathing over Thirna, changing it, waking it. In the very heart of these stirrings, Aedan encounters that which defies belief, leaving him speechless with terror - and wonder.

I can not recommend this journey enough.

It has been a long time since I have cared about the characters in a story as much as I do with Dawn of Wonder.
even without the sub plots, this novel is a stand out. I am very much looking forward to the developments to come.

I enjoyed every minute and second of this, never too slow, never boring, a beautiful story line, exciting, thrilling and can’t WAIT for the next one! Loved Tim’s performance too, honestly thank you for producing such a fine story.

YA epic fantasy

Excellent narration (when you don't even think of it) which carries the story well. A coming of age story, with the classical setting of a youth leaving a small town and setting out on an adventure. Some strong girl characters too! War looms, straining the kingdom where the lower classes struggle, while fantastical forces emerge from the dark. Our hero learns to navigate personal and societal challenges with inspiration from his comrades! Very enjoyable, I look forward to the next in series.

Can't wait until the next book!

There are very few books in this genre which have such a complete story and background, starting when the main character is so young and yet keeping you engaged the whole time.
Like all books, there is a plot device which the characters use to get themselves out of trouble, yet it isn't over used, is realistic and isn't over powered; the story isn't win win win, the characters sometimes fail so you never truly know what the outcome will be.

Good ideas, solid characters, meandering plot

I enjoyed this title well enough to power through it in a very short space of time, and got quite attached to the main character. At the same time, I felt it lacked a little bit in terms of payoff to the scenarios it set up, choosing to save most of the meat of the mystery for the eventual sequels, Which means you do end up spending a lot of time just sort of hanging out with the secondary characters while they get up to hijinks, which is not terrible by any stretch, just a little meandering. The most frustrating element is the final twist which takes us through to the sequel. It's pretty obvious. You'd have to really not be paying attention to miss it, which is frustrating when the MC is introduced as somebody naturally gifted at noticing things and solving puzzles. But again, I can't complain too much, I did enjoy my time with the story and characters very much, and look forward to a follow up.
As for the narration, I had an issue there. Namely that the narrator, for as much as he is otherwise very pleasant to listen to, apparently only know three different accents, and one of them is "nasal, pompous, British colonial officer from the 1800s", and he uses it very liberally. VERY liberally. It sucks the earnestness out of a lot of the interactions when your highschoolers sound like your drill sergeants and your drill sergeants sound like they belong in a British sitcom. It was a weird choice.
