Publisher's Summary

The American guy is not to be confused with a husband, father, hunk, or intellectual, says guy expert Dave Barry. Published just in time (the American guy faces extinction due to feminism, the men's movement, and stricter sanitation laws), this guide gives women helpful advice for understanding Him (or It) and offers men useful tips on remembering the names of their children and other dilemmas of life. As to the truth of his conclusions, Dave says, "Every statement of fact you will read in this book is either based on actual laboratory tests, or else I made it up. But you can trust me. I'm a guy."

I laughed all the way through

This was one of the funniest books I've ever heard. The tears were rolling from my eyes as I tried to look like I was paying attention to the road while driving. This is definitely NOT the book to hear while you're sitting through a boring lecture or after you've eaten too many stewed prunes! Viva le "guy"!

Holy Kumquat, it's abridged!

Who in their right mind would abridge a book like this! It's one of the funniest books I've ever read - and I always loan to women friends who are having guy problems, they laugh and they learn. After all, the best humor has a lot of truth in it. Abridging this is like cutting out half of a joke and still expecting to be funny. I guess it's my fault. I was so happy to see this audiobook available that I didn't stop to check to see if it was abridged. Don't do it mon!

Funny Book!

I have listened to this book many times over the years.

The narrator, John Ritter, was an excellent choice! His voice was pleasant to listen to.

My first Dave Barry

I have always seen Dave Barry books in my parents bathroom my whole life. I would read while I did guy things and often laugh. This lead to me purchasing my first Dave Barry audio book. It was funny and made me laugh out loud many times!

Relationship Saving Experience

Where does Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is single handedly responsible for preventing at least one break-up. We were on a 5 hour drive to a wedding and the ride did not start well. Both of us were in horrendous moods and we had not even finished putting the bags in the car. 15 minutes into the drive there was a plea to shut-up! I took the phone, downloaded the book, and started playing it over the radio. 30 minutes into the book we were laughing so hard that we hard we had no idea why were were fighting in the first place. We arrived at the hotel in tears from all the laughing.

What other book might you compare Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys to and why?

This is a trick question... do I want to know more about how guys are silly?... let me think... hmmm... maybe.

Have you listened to any of John Ritter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, listening to this book is a pleasure: tone, inflection, and the natural flow make it a fantastic experience.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

Absolutely nothing.

Any additional comments?

Thank you for putting this book in an easy to find audio format.

Funny but dated

Blast from the past with dated references. Still funny if you get them but ritter talks too fast and his style is so un-emphatic that he doesn’t do Barry the justice he deserves. The punch lines go amiss and I just had to grit my teeth and bear it to finish the whole thing ... I just found him so annoying...
