About this listen

A race against time becomes a battle for the soul in this suspenseful story from New York Times best seller Jeffery Deaver.

Death is a topic Bradford Douglas is intimately familiar with. The young attorney is on a crusade against capital punishment. He’s saved a number of death row inmates, but none of his cases has been as tough as the one he now faces: Henry Combs, a vicious serial killer, has only hours to live when Douglas is summoned for a Hail Mary attempt to have the man’s sentence commuted to life imprisonment.

As Douglas races to pursue whatever strategies he can think of, he finds his passion for justice giving way to something altogether different.

An obsession.

This had a lot of promise but it was just too obvious where this was going. Because it is a novella, there was no real room to explain or analyse the twist in the tale which left a sense of dissatisfaction for me.

Good but not great

Love Jeffery Deaver. It was a little slow to start but had a classic twist ending that no one saw coming. Well worth a listen!
The narrator could be better but he did a good job overall.

Classic Deaver

I found the narrator to be excellent and much of the story engaging, though ultimately I was disappointed. Probably just a bit too dark for me.

Disappointed

What a fun story with an ending I still don’t fully get but I love it! It makes you think more than you expect you will! I just love Jeffery’s way of telling a story, just great!!

Oh wow!

Can’t say I’m a fan of the twists that Deaver throws in at the very end. I’ll give one more book a go and if this is his thing, it’ll be the last Deaver book I read.

2 for 2 Deaver ending
