Neun Fräulein, allesamt auf eine Ehe mit dem Prinzen aus, haben es auf die so zerbrechliche Heidel Beere abgesehen. Das Stück ist ein Paradebeispiel für das Kunstmärchen. Was zunächst kindlich-naiv anmutet, zeigt zahlreiche Spuren romantischer Ironie und dramatischer Überspitzung.
