Als am 9. Mai 1945 zwischen elf und zwölf Uhr in Wien die Friedensglocken läuten, sitzt Fanny Cervenka, elf Jahre alt, mit ihrer Freundin Josefine auf den gemauerten Stufen einer Molkerei in der Pendlergasse in Wien-Meidling. In der Gegend, in der sie auch wohnt, gibt es insgesamt drei Molkereien. Sie kennt das Brüllen der dort eingestellten Kühe, seit sie denken kann, sodass es für sie Geborgenheit bedeutet. In den vergangenen Monaten wurden die Laute der Tiere oft vom Lärm der Luftangriffe übertönt. Sie hatte in solchen Augenblicken Angst gehabt, Angst vor dem Sterben.
