Damit er sein Eselchen versorgen kann, lässt Tino Touristenkinder auf ihm reiten - gegen Geld. Auf diese Weise lernt Tino Betty, die Tochter eines reichen Südamerikaners, kennen. Sie überredet ihren Papa, das Eselchen zu kaufen. Tino wird als Betreuer engagiert und bekommt eine Art Pagenuniform. Gemeinsam reisen Betty, ihre Familie, das Eselchen Grisella und Tino durch Europa. Eines Nachts kehrt die Familie nach Brasilien zurück, nimmt Grisella mit und lässt Tino zurück. Weil Tino sich aber niemals im Leben von Grisella trennen will, reist er mit dem Schiff hinterher.
