Caught in the midst of a political battle royale, Finch can only ride out the waves. And he knows he’ll be lucky to escape this underwater prison without leaving anyone behind.

what an end

Publisher's Summary
"Vampires don't exist. At least, not anymore...."
I celebrated when vampires were declared extinct.
Those beasts had preyed on humanity for millennia, committing senseless, brutal murders. Like the rest of my colleagues at the Occult Bureau, I looked forward to a world where we could all sleep at night - where constant cover-up jobs were no longer required to keep the public calm and unaware.
But the end of vampires wasn't the end of our problems. It was only the beginning.
Other blood-sucking creatures began to lurk in the night. As soon as I turned 21, I became a ground agent at the Bureau because I wanted - no, needed - to join the fight.
And then Dorian Clave burst into my life - turning everything I thought I knew into quicksand. Vampires like him were killers who devoured humanity's inner darkness until shadows danced beneath their skin. Yet there was more to him than that.
He showed me that light cannot exist without the dark, and that trying to fight this balance would have consequences our human minds couldn't even comprehend.
Because sometimes darkness needs to exist.
Twilight fans, welcome to a thrilling new world....

I really tried to love this...
I desperately tried to finish this book but every moment when I turned it on I would turn it off shortly after. I quit reading this alltogether with about 3 hours until the end, I just couldn't make it no matter how hard I tried. The narrator is great, and gives a good performance. The plot moves at a very slow pace, and it was reccommened to me as a romance book but not much romance happens other than the main character constantly swooning over a vampire and some playful banter. Overall very bland. Heavily plays on themes of post-apocolaptic future, and heavy military themes with fighting and guns (Not my cup of tea, and if I knew it was a military book I would't have bought). It was just ok overall.

Starts Slow, Finishes Strong
Okay I have to be honest. With the reviews simply saying this is great Blah Blah Blah you really don’t get a REAL review. This book starts off wobbly and very slow, but to the authors credit it finishes strong and actually had me looking for the next book. It’s entertaining once the storyline gets started. It has some humor, and the characters keep you interested. I am looking forward to the next installment and will let you know how it stacks up!

So glad I kept going!
I listen to audio books while I’m working on the office and usually don’t have any issues. After just finishing another Bella Forest book I was having trouble or following along with this one. I restarted it twice. On a road trip I restarted it again and am so glad I did. I love this book! I love the story and the characters and I think the reader did a really good job. I can’t wait to listen to the next book in the series!

Um..it’s a different take on tween Vamp love story
Its still a Vamp/Human forbidden love story. Kinda predictable but does proffer a new unexpected creative plot. In this story humans and vampires are actually wholly independent species. The Vamps flee from their home realm and come to Earths to survive an apocalypse in theirs. Seems the very thing that caused all the trouble is of course humans. The Vamps feed on blood, but only on the blood of bad, wicked evil humans who the Vamps seem to have an instinct for. They don’t feed on good folks because they taste like eating card board or saw dust, no flavor at all. Only the wicked are tasty. This is a fun story with plots and twists to keep you guessing and interested to the end. I hope book two doesn’t disappoint. I look forward to book two.

Absolutely stellar!!
Wow just wow! I am blown away by this story. The narration was done very well and I enjoyed listening to this book. What really amazes me is how well the characters are developed and the storyline is so gripping. I felt myself becoming happy when they were happy, confused when they were confused, and sad when they were sad. The cover looks kind of like twilight but this story is so much more mature and developed than that popular teen series. And also it doesn't contain explicit adult scenes so far but I still felt like this was such a mature read and not at all childish. The author has a great understanding of people and I am just amazed at this gem. This is one of those one in a lifetime reads, forever in my memory and utterly special. I look forward to the rest of the series!

Great story. Terrible accents
When a fairly major character is Scottish, please use a narrator who can speak with a Scottish accent. Your audience isn’t all from the US. Some of us live in the UK and the awful Scottish accent detracted from an otherwise excellent audiobook. The rest of the performance was good but I can’t bring myself to give anymore than one star as the accent was painful to listen to.
