There really isn't much I didn't like about this book. The setting, characters, plot and narration left me with a constantly growing feeling of dread and unease. I sincerely hope to see more of Harran Blackwood in future works. Fantastic work Josh Reynolds.

This story would work even whitout being a Warhammer related novel. Has the feeling of older warhammer books that were more rooted and where protagonists ain't some kind of greater than life being.

My introduction to Warhammer horror
The writer and narrator do a great job of selling the twisted folk horror and unease of a swamp town, under the influence of unfathomable creatures and forces, old and cruel.

Hard to follow, voices sound the same
I struggled with this story and I wasn't able to finish it.
The ideas and storyline were interesting but it was hard to follow along with. The narration was the same tone through out with only slight variations for voices. This made it hard to differentiate between the people speaking and also listen to what is being said.

Excellent story of the old world, even in the age of sigmarines
I have been a fan of GW novels and games since the 80’s. I am truly not a fan of the recent conversion of the old world to something that looks like 40k, but is steampunk. That said, this was an excellent story with an excellent reader. The voice at first seems a little over done, but in time it grows on you. The story itself is in the old tradition, and was quite good as both a fantastic story and as horror fiction (left you wondering).

A Dark Swamp-town mystery!
Not a story for the faint of heart, but one I thoroughly enjoyed! This story was an absolute joy to listen to, and I would love to hear more about the epic adventures and downfall of Haran Blackwood! Packed with action, suspense, a fair bit of comedic moments, and a good dose of grindhouse-style horror! I was almost brought to tears towards the end, and am really praying for a series to be made of this amazing character! "How about a game of cards?" 10/10! Major props to both the narrator and the author!

its all atmosphere. kind of boring
its probably as spooky as reynolds can be but admittedly its not very scary. its grimdark at best. its a fun view at predatory tree kin but i feel theres no real feeling of terror ever present. if your already a warhammer fantasy fan then its great inspiration for possible gaming setting and impliments on table top but as a "horror novel" its weak. good world ,somewhat intriguing story ,and characters ,atmosphere is strong but thats pretty much all this had going for it. got bored half way through and ended up putting it down. narrator is decent ,good voice for horror.

not particularly scary but still great
a horror novel centered around the sylvaneth is a great core concept. u fortunately the book isn't all that scary. the main character is really capable and a total bad ass so your aware from the begining he is never really in danger. this kind of puts damper on the scares.
it is however very entertaining and just spooky enough to scratch that Warhammer horror itch. if you haven't listened to maladiction yet I'd recommend that over this one. one of the best pieces of horror I've read in awhile and probably my favorite Warhammer novel of all gime

hold on, it builds up!
I am more of a Warhammer 40k fan than Warhammer, so I didn't know almost anything about this realm of fiction. As a result, I was a bit lost for the 1st chapter or 2. But as the book continued, I was pleased to find that the author, Josh Reynolds, was still doing very good work in the fantasy genre's of horror in addition to league grim and darkness of the 41st millennium.
The book almost felt like some sort of 16th century noir. The descriptions of the environment and feel of the story were evocative.
I finished this audio book in maybe 2 1/2 days, maybe less.
I must admit that the reader took a bit of getting used to, but by the end, I had really come to enjoy his performance.
This book just calls out for further novels incorporating the main character.

Bleak, grimy, dour. Great!
I was not acquainted with the 40k warhammer games/series, and got this book for 3 reasons. The beautiful, mesmerizing cover art, the fact that I needed to add a book during a 2 for 1 sale and nothing else caught my fancy, and because I was in the mood for a creepy, dark horror story.
I'm glad I picked it! This story is relentless in its bleakness, you can just feel evil dripping off it. It is well written, no clunky language and it keeps flowing without any boring bits. The narrators voice also suits the material really well. I was thoroughly creeped out during many parts, which is exactly what I wanted. I won't spoil the story, but it was pretty easy to follow/imagine even as someone who is not familiar with the 40k universe. Just think of it as fantasy horror. I may start listening to the series now too, but it absolutely works as a stand alone novel as well. Especially if you listen to it on dark, rainy nights.

Dark fantasy meets the Wicker Man and Snake Plissken
This is the best Black Library book I have read and is fantastically dark whilst keeping the reader turning each page with a sense of urgency to discover what the hero/anti-hero will face next. Blackwood has the same attitude towards life as Snake Plissken another anti-hero faced with a formidable task. The sense of foreboding throughout is exciting as are the regular surprises regarding the “dark harvest”. Highly recommended, next for me is C L Werner’s Witch Hunter trilogy. Looking forward to another Blackwood novel!

Formulaic, meandering, ultimately pointless
Dark Harvest contains some memorable, atmospheric writing. However: the by-the-numbers scene structure becomes too obvious to ignore. Harran Blackwood slouches through one 1st person scene after another. You will not fear for his life, nor find yourself inspired by his battle against an inimical world. Each scene's crisis is resolved with a low-drama button press. Our Hero effectively has infinite money, infinite combat skill, infinite help from companions - or he is just too important for the mid-level baddies to kill. Everything leads up to the final confrontation between Harran and the terrible being that has pursued him throughout the book. And is that confrontation exciting, dramatic, cataclysmic? I am sorry to tell you that it is not. This lynchpin scene - this scene that carries the whole weight and promise of the book - turns on the *lamest Bait & Switch ever used in fiction*. I won't spoil this scene. I'll just say that - stories make promises, and authors must respect those promises. *Not* fob off their readers with a lazy 'ah, I'll sort it out in Book 2".

Fancy a game?..
What a great book, the narration sold every minute of it as real. The dripping dank setting, the dark ominous feeling in the pit of your stomach.
Beautifully immersive, i coupled listening to this with a gentle background of rain throughout listening and it transported me to the dim grime filled world of warhammer.
Don’t hesitate to buy this, the hunt is on!

best single narration of the WHH books
Jake Urry does a fantastic job with the voices here and elevates the book to an incredibly high level. The story itself too was great and my favourite of the series so far.

An Excellent Entry in Warhammer Horror
I don't think one would need know much about the worlds of Warhammer to enjoy this story. Part detective story, part nature-horror we have a gritty protagonist, a good set up, and a couple of very interesting turns to enjoy. Jake Urry's reading was excellent too, definitely added to the experience.

Dark, dark, DARK! :D
Awesome and Grimdark! A great look in to not only the Mortal Realms and their underbelly but also the Sylvaneth! Narration is great and it's wonderfully written.
