About this listen
In life's game, we're all just trying to survive one move at a time.
From Shadowmoor to the halls of Silvercrest Academy, I went from a non-existent player to a powerful piece on the board. My parents want to control me, the enemy wants to use me, and everyone else fears the power I hold.
Everyone except the Bishops—Creed, Zane, Eldon, and Brax. I'm their Queen and every move we make is to protect each other at all costs.
With new threats emerging from the shadows, I'm starting to wonder if my destiny was cursed before it even began. I've become a pawn, and only time will tell if I'm headed for victory or defeat.

Narrated in duet by Marie Hawkins and Darcy Stark, the performance is a highlight. Both narrators have distinctive, pleasing voices and they play off each other really well. The duet style keeps conversations immersive and natural, and the production quality is clean and polished throughout, making it a very easy listen.
Story-wise, the gang is definitely up the proverbial creek without a paddle—especially with no contact with the monarchy. This installment finally answers a few questions we’ve been waiting on for over a book while also dropping intriguing breadcrumbs about character motives and possible twists still to come. And yes… it ends on a cliffhanger that will absolutely have you reaching for the next installment.
Relationship-wise, Raven and her guys feel solid now. They’re working together more effectively as a group and focusing on protecting Raven, which makes their dynamic feel stronger and more cohesive. I’d love to see their family unit continue to develop even further in future books, particularly through deeper communication, trust, and different types of intimacy.
Jean Jo continues to be fascinating, raising questions about motives, behavior, and how much free will plays into the choices characters are making.
