Publisher's Summary

A rebellious princess. A cursed rogue. A forbidden love that will bring a kingdom to its knees.

As niece of the king, Elise Lysander cares about two things: sneaking into gambling dens, and avoiding an advantageous marriage at all costs.

When her uncle holds the life of her deathly ill father over her head, reluctantly, Elise puts her fate into the hands of Legion Grey, the handsome and mysterious dowry negotiator. He may be arrogant and infuriating, but soon Legion incites a blistering, forbidden passion she can’t ignore.

As their attraction grows, so do the dangers: attacks from black-eyed people, a cursed enemy who is more beast than man, and rumors of fae returning for the crown they believe was stolen from them long ago.

After a bloody coup upends the kingdom, Elise flees with Legion, but nothing is as it seems. The man she allowed into her heart reveals his own secret plans with the return of magic—and he has every intention of using Elise to see them through.

With war between magic and mortal on the horizon, Elise must pick a side to protect her kingdom. Does she stand with her people who stole the throne? Or with a man who lied his way into her heart and whose secret past could bring her destruction?

Filled with luscious world building, banter-filled romance, and epic battles, Curse of Shadows and Thorns is the first book in The Broken Kingdoms series.

good listen

It did get a but slow there for a bit but the ending was great and worth the wait. I suppose there is A lot of world building happening and a lot of descriptions for us to understand that world.
I would recommend 👍

Similiar to Blood and Ash but different & shorter

So to be clear about this series it is YA and fantasy. The romance is barely there, by that I mean there's barely any lovey dovey scenes. Very similiar to Blood and Ash by Jennifer L Armentrout though a shorter book and different in some ways. Still for binge listen I enjoyed it. I will continue the series to see how the story continues as book 2 seems to head in a slightly different direction. I don't mind Stina Neilsen as a narrator, I think she does an excellent. 4 stars for the story as i wish it had been slightly more diffetent and also longer but wasn't half bad.

Interesting storyline but lacked intrigue

I enjoyed the book but I was left wanting more. She trained as a warrior at the start. And they called her a warrior throughout, but the demonstration of her strength was lacking

Utterly loved this, finished in less than 1day

Sometimes books do not transfer well to Audio, I found this to be so for the 1st few chapters. It's like actually reading let's you fall straight into this new fantastic world and their people. I love Stina Neilson, she is up there with my favourite female narrators, she is so brillant with pulling you in and having believable voices for all characters, including male. I had to listen to the 1 st 4 or so chapters twice, by I was in, hook line n sinker! Amazing world, fabulous characters, I'm sorry to say 100% predictable, very little took me by surprise, but the magic, world building and character nuances made the predictability so worth it, and it is YA Fantasy and I'm a granny so I guess I'm very good at guessing what's to come in some YA stories. I fell in love with the main characters and am heading off to start Book 2, look out for my review!
