Ryan lived his life on Earth trapped in his own body.

The doctors couldn't explain what was happening to him, but slowly, his body was crystallizing.

Then, a portal opened up on the ceiling of his hospital room. He'd seen that one in enough anime to recognize what was happening. It couldn't possibly be worse than the hell that was his life on Earth, not that he was given any choice.

Now, those who summoned him expect some type of hero. That isn't Ryan. Ryan wants freedom. He wants to live his life his way. He'll do the right thing when confronted with it, but he isn't out to be anyone's savior.

Of course, in a world under a brutal siege and surrounded by powerful cultivators, Ryan realizes the only path to freedom is becoming strong enough to make his own path. For once, the mysterious disease will work in his favor as he forms his Crystal Core.

This story features slow-burn romantic interests, world-building, a cultivation system with LitRPG framework, making fun of cultivation tropes, powerful supporting characters who have their own motivations and backgrounds, and an MC who has potential, but is still growing in power. Be warned, there is some mild cussing from some of the characters, and the MC undergoes a great deal of personal growth in this book so that he will be in the place he needs to be for the rest of the series.

This is the start of an isekai cultivation series with LitRPG-style system elements and a harem element basically baked in by the plot. It's a clever way to start the main character off with an instant harem, even if he's so inexperienced as to not know what to do with them to begin with. The reluctant hero main character suffers from a terminal debilitating disease before the isekai event. It's a bit like an anime-style LitRPG cultivation harem homage to Thomas Covenant.

Sounds like a lot? Well the setup does feel a little contrived, but no more than anything else in these genres. It works well enough. I was a little disappointed that the spice is fade-to-black, though

It's full of the usual sort of self-published KU errors: incorrect or missing words, extra words, misuse of transitive lay, singular-plural mismatches, dangling participles and modifiers, misuse of comprised, and so on, as well as a few little inconsistencies. But dialogue is natural and consistent, the prose mostly flows well, and none of the errors has much impact.

Narration is top notch, as one would expect from this team, though Rebecca's system voice is a little odd and Daniel mispronounces "diminutive". (It has four syllables, not five!)

Overall, this is pretty good fun. I'll be picking up the rest of the series.

Enthralling system cultivation

the story is poor the acting Is sooo bad its awful, there's no world building, no room is discribed so they may as well be in the same room, they wrote adults as children and men as little girls, the simp is strong with this one, there is magic that makes a woman stronger then a man not even in a made up bullshit story like this, I hated it I won't my money back

not worth it

all the mc does is whine it goes from "wow I'm in a magic world and can move for the first time In years ill become the strongest person in this new world" to "cry I can't believe these people who brought me here aren't letting me go why can't I just be free on a world that I know nothing about full of danger and monster let me leave the safety of others and my hot wife so I can go get eaten" what a dumb ass character personality

I've never stopped a book in the middle of reading based on just how annoying a character is but this is terrible.

props to the voice actor for portraying this character so well. really made me hate him.

what a whiny mc
