About this listen

'Good people, I am come hither to die and by a law I am condemned to the same.' These were the words uttered by 17-year-old Lady Jane Grey as she stood on the scaffold on a cold February morning in 1554. Forced on to the throne by power players at court, Queen Jane reigned for just 13 days before being imprisoned in the tower, condemned for high treason and executed.

In this dramatic retelling of an often misread tale, historian Nicola Tallis explores evidence that has never been before used in a biography to sweep away the myths and reveal the moving story of an intelligent, independent and courageous young woman

Critic Reviews

"A stunning debut...vivid, colourful, pacy and evocative." (Alison Weir)

Well researched and written. The reader was easy to listen too. So glad to now know the amazing story.

A factual and dramatic story

Loved this and would highly recommend to any person with an interest in the short life of Queen Jane.
It saddens me that she is almost forgotten when people discuss the Tudors. A teen manipulated by those around her onto a throne she never wanted, but once there did her duty with honour for less than 2 weeks before being humiliated and deposed, then sentenced to death.
How different the world might have been if only…..

Never forget her

it would seem that the Audible version of this book went out with a lot of errors, which were somehow not picked up. A real pity, as it detracted from the enjoyment of the book and is certainly not what I expect from Audible

good read, but lots of mistakes in the narration
