Simply Incredible!
The author's insight into the person with dementia, along with the narrator's incredible sensitivity for the characters, makes this a must for audio book lovers.

Even better than the first
Enjoyed the first book in this trilogy (The Blackhouse) so much, I was almost reluctant to read the second in case it was disappointing. I just did t see how he could do better.
Happily, I was wrong. Superb writing (again), a fascinating cast of characters, some new, some known, the glorious background of the islands in the north of Scotland with descriptions so alive and so lyrical it makes me want to go there.
And then there is the superb narration of Peter Forbes, who never lets his narration get between you and the book. Who reads in a way that the Gaelic and Scots words roll from his tongue , heightening the pleasure. Loved it. A superb writer paired with a superb narrator - what a magnificent pairing. I’d listen to just about anything from these two.

too drawn out
I read the first in the trilogy quite some time ago and had obviously forgotten how overly verbose and drawn out it is, until I started this, the 2nd in the trilogy. I've listened to about a third of it and am done!
I think it is the style of writing that I dislike, not the story, I'm not keen on an author using unnecessary (to me) words to describe a scene,
I would say to those of you who enjoy verbosity in writing you may well enjoy this book
