Simply Incredible!

The author's insight into the person with dementia, along with the narrator's incredible sensitivity for the characters, makes this a must for audio book lovers.

Even better than the first

Enjoyed the first book in this trilogy (The Blackhouse) so much, I was almost reluctant to read the second in case it was disappointing. I just did t see how he could do better.
Happily, I was wrong. Superb writing (again), a fascinating cast of characters, some new, some known, the glorious background of the islands in the north of Scotland with descriptions so alive and so lyrical it makes me want to go there.
And then there is the superb narration of Peter Forbes, who never lets his narration get between you and the book. Who reads in a way that the Gaelic and Scots words roll from his tongue , heightening the pleasure. Loved it. A superb writer paired with a superb narrator - what a magnificent pairing. I’d listen to just about anything from these two.

Profound

So well written the story takes you away to a different time and place even if I could guess the ending it still surprises with twists

Intriguing story

Enjoyed the back and forth the story took and had to keep listening for the next piece of the puzzle. Great narration I could listen to forever. Looking forward to more.

too drawn out

I read the first in the trilogy quite some time ago and had obviously forgotten how overly verbose and drawn out it is, until I started this, the 2nd in the trilogy. I've listened to about a third of it and am done!
I think it is the style of writing that I dislike, not the story, I'm not keen on an author using unnecessary (to me) words to describe a scene,
I would say to those of you who enjoy verbosity in writing you may well enjoy this book

the Lewis man

Thoroughly enjoyed this story. The beautiful description of the islands allowed me "see" where the story happened.
Good reading of story.

Ach aye, Loved it!

Just as brilliant as the first, if not more so! Excellent writing, plot and narration- all embued with Scottish history, language and landscape.

Great!

I didn’t see that coming until the very end! It all wrapped up rather quickly.
