Publisher's Summary

When Melissa was five years old she had a secret: She had a fairy for a best friend. But travel between our world and Avaelon, the world of the Fae, is only possible once every seven years, and the two were forced to say goodbye. They promised to meet again in seven years, but when he arrived to keep that promise, Zakkaerion was heartbroken to discover that Melissa had moved away.

Fourteen years after their first meeting, Melissa finally returns to her childhood home. But like most humans upon reaching adulthood, she can no longer see him. Knowing that his time on Earth will be short, Zakk is desperate to renew contact.

To Aiden, his impulsive companion, the answer is simple: using a magical object called a dreamthorn will allow a human to once again see all Fae. Zakk hesitates, but Aiden makes the decision for him. Though furious at his friend, the problem has been solved; Melissa can once again see him.

Joy turns to confusion, however, when the young woman reacts to the sight of him with terror and denies ever knowing him as a child.
