worth a listen
A good read quite a twisty turny story. Two stories intertwining thoughout the book with suspicious people at every corner. I would read this author again.

Love this series
I can’t believe I’ve now read (in quick succession) ten books in this series! No wonder I feel like I know all the characters personally!
This installment takes up immediately after number nine where Ruth had received a couple of pieces of stressful news. So, when a former colleague asks for her help at an Italian archaeological dig, she jumps at the chance to get away.
Ruth travels to Italy, accompanied by her daughter Kate, her friend Shona, and Shona’s son. Her working holiday, however, doesn't turn out to be as relaxing as she thought it would. Aside from the stifling heat and mountainous terrain of the small town they are staying in, Ruth has to contend with threatening graffiti, earthquakes, and, of course, murder.
If that isn’t enough, Nelson arrives unexpectedly and unannounced to throw his macho weight around.
This book has such a great start - where some newly discovered bones at the archaeology site manage to make a call to the mobile of the man about to dig them up. And the mystery plot doesn’t slow down from that moment on. The Dark Angel even manages to include a great little crime/mystery subplot for the characters who stayed behind in Norfolk. In fact, out of all of the Ruth mystery plots, this was one of my favourites.
But, as I say in every review of this series, it’s not the mystery plot that really interests me, it’s the soap opera life of the characters.
There were a few moments that I was unsure of here. I just didn’t think Nelson and Ruth would make some of the decisions they did in this book. (As I said, I feel like I know them personally and therefore, think I know how they’d act, LOL.)
It’s only a minor gripe, however, and, for the most, I adored reading about the private lives of the characters, just as always.
I was impressed by how Griffiths again squeezed in so many of the series’ familiar characters. She even found a way to let Nelson’s daughter, Laura, have some moments in the sun. I really liked Laura's scenes and inner thoughts and look forward to her being used again in a future book.
As usual, Griffiths left us on a cliffhanger. I’m not terribly sure about this one either but I’ll have to wait and see where she goes with it when book 11 comes out next month. (Thank goodness I've timed this so I don't have long to wait!)

thoroughly enjoy this series
Enjoy this series so much have sped through first 10 books back2back. Only a couple left to go but so addicted need to get straight into the next book... makings of a terrific tv series

This was another great Ruth Galloway
I thoroughly enjoyed Book 10. In Elly Griffiths trademark style a well written story with some absolutely fantastic twists and turns.
The characters have become a family to me - congratulations to the author for maintaining continuity by constantly enriching the lives of the character, thereby creating a grippping story line.

Familiar and comfortable, but no great sparkle
I continue to read this series because I have developed an affection for the characters. However it is not difficult to recognise that the prose and plot are pedestrian at best.
Will I read the next installment? If the month is quiet and I want a mild distraction I probably will.

This Needs to End
Initially I found the Dr Ruth Galloway Series an excellent read but Book 9 lacked believability in many ways but Book 10 " The Dark Angle", has really ended this series for me. I resent I actualy bought the book and found that when Nelson and co just happen to arrive in Italy near Ruth, I could not be bothered reading any more fanciful stuff.
For me in reading and enjoying fiction there needs to be strong elements of believability in the story for me to continue reading. But this offering from Elly Griffiths kills thd series dead for me.
If you too have been a fan then borrow from a library or partner buy but that is my last read of this series.
