Publisher's Summary

An Amazon Charts bestseller.

Near an isolated mansion lies a beautiful garden.

In this garden grow luscious flowers, shady trees...and a collection of precious “butterflies” - young women who have been kidnapped and intricately tattooed to resemble their namesakes. Overseeing it all is the Gardener, a brutal, twisted man obsessed with capturing and preserving his lovely specimens.

When the garden is discovered, a survivor is brought in for questioning. FBI agents Victor Hanoverian and Brandon Eddison are tasked with piecing together one of the most stomach-churning cases of their careers. But the girl, known only as Maya, proves to be a puzzle herself.

As her story twists and turns, slowly shedding light on life in the Butterfly Garden, Maya reveals old grudges, new saviors, and horrific tales of a man who’d go to any length to hold beauty captive. But the more she shares, the more the agents have to wonder what she’s still hiding...

Dark & Twisty

If you like your books dark, twisty, and easy to read, you'll enjoy this one 😊

Disturbing, finale was disappointing, but creative

It was a creative book, tactfully handling disturbing themes. At times too reliant on dialogue, therefore reading a little bit like a YA fiction. Overall pretty but tragic to read, the ending was a let down however. Seemed rushed and too dramatic. The lead, Maya/Inara, was at times unlikable due to her constant "I'm not like other girls"-esque dialogue, but she grows to be more likeable towards the end. The start of the audio book also has some skips but I'm not sure if that was just me?

I really enjoyed this book

It was a great book and interesting concept which I really enjoyed. I didn't love the readers voice personally but the storyline was interesting enough to make you forget.

Butterfly Garden

This one was ok, I did consider giving up on it not long in as it was slow and boring in the beginning, picked up slightly enough for me to finish it, but wasn’t anything special.

WOW

What a story, it’s been on my wish list for awhile I wish I’d read this sooner.
Narrative was enjoyable, at times the male narrator come across like he was narrating a comedy rather than something emotion.

Ok-ish

What really brought this book down was the male narrator. As another reviewer has already mentioned, he did not get the emotion correct at all. He made everyone sound silly, sarcastic and stupid. The female narrator was fine, but lacking in emotion too at times.
The story was ok. It was disturbing, but that was what I was after. I just found that the characters weren't particularly believable nor were their reactions. I was expecting more from so many rave reviews on good reads. Oh well.

It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad.

Twisted and captivating

I couldn’t put it down despite the dark, twisted concepts.
The narrators weren’t to my taste but after you get used to them the story grips you.

Disappointed

I wanted so much more from this book. It was disturbing but I just wanted more. It got quite boring in the middle and I was disappointed.

Story was okay, audio execution was poor

I was pretty excited for this book when I first looked into it. I should have listened to the sample, because the male voice actor made this a really difficult listen. He really takes the listener out of the dark, twisted story and makes it sound like a comedy skit. The female voice actor was much better, and I believed the emotions she was conveying and she differentiated between characters well.

The story itself is was fine. The chapters in which the lead is retelling her story were interesting to listen to, but the police room interview chapters fell a bit flat.

All in all I’m not sure who I would recommend this to…
