Publisher's Summary

An audio original novella featuring bestselling author Dean Koontz’s compelling new heroine, Jane Hawk. From the case files of the former FBI agent before she became the nation’s most wanted fugitive - The Bone Farm details a desperate man-hunt for a serial killer before he murders again.

Katherine Haskell, a young college co-ed is on her way back to school, but she never makes it there. Instead, she becomes the latest prey of the rapist and murderer dubbed by the tabloids the “Mother Hater.” He is a twisted soul who kidnaps young girls for pleasure then discards them.

Katherine is missing, but she’s not yet dead. FBI agents Jane Hawk and her partner Gary Burkett must descend into the hell of this killer’s mind to solve the case before it is too late. The question is - will they both get out alive?

Loved the two narrators.

I really enjoyed listening to this story with the two narrators reading their own parts, it felt more like watching a movie and not a book with several characters, being read by the one person. The storyline was a bit predictable but it was still an enjoyable listen. More books should use more than the one narrator if it's at all possible, it gives you a much better experience.

Great example of Koontz’ work

This is a great way for people to give Koontz a try before diving into one of the bigger books. As always, he creates characters and atmosphere with great colour and clarity. The narration was a bit over the top at times but I enjoyed the use to two narrators for the two key characters.

Regret the purchase

What a boring book, so predictable.
Why two different readers? That was just confusing and difficult to follow!

Switching perspective is a really nice touch

This is my first Dean Koontz book. The changing perspective is really novel, specially with one perspective being from one of the killers. Wish it was a little more fleshed out but good story overall.

Great short story

This is the first Dean Koontz I’ve read in a while and I’m happy to say his writing and pace is still as gripping as ever. Well narrated too

Felt like a gun advertisement

Such mediocre writing, hardly got to experience any of the storyline. The whole thing felt like a gun advertisement, spent more time on the description of the bullets than the kidnapped girls.

Cliched short story

Disappointing. I used to enjoy Deane Koontz for the originality of Odd Thomas but the last few books of his that I’ve read have really dwelt on sickening sexual violence against women. They’re clicked, ugly and unpleasant to read and I don’t feel they are redeemed by having a female lead character. Maybe he’s just too old now and hasn’t moved with the times. His themes are tired and dated.
