Publisher's Summary

Emma’s darkest secrets are buried in the past. But the truth can’t stay hidden for long.

Emma is a loving wife, a devoted mother…and an involuntary killer. For years she’s been hiding the dead body of the teacher who seduced her as a teen.

It’s a secret that might have stayed buried if only her life had been less perfect. A promotion for Emma’s husband, Alex, means they can finally move to a bigger home with their young son. But with a buyer lined up for their old house, Emma can’t leave without destroying every last trace of her final revenge....

Returning to the shallow grave in the garden, she finds it empty. The body is gone.

Panicked, Emma confesses to her husband. But this is only the beginning. Soon, Alex will discover things about her he’ll wish he’d learned sooner. And others he’ll long to forget.

Easy listener

If you could sum up Silent Victim in three words, what would they be?

-

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

-

Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Knowelden and Steve West ’s other performances? How does this one compare?

-

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

-

Any additional comments?

This was an easy listen on my commute to and from work. The narrators did a good job.
I particularly liked the approach to each chapter being narrated in the voice of the person it related to within the story and also the switching back and forth in time. One major disappointment - the ending was lame. The whole way through I kept thinking there was going to be a plot twist at the end that I wouldn't see coming. Unfortunately it was not the case and the story ended exactly the way it setup for throughout the plot. As someone who loves crime, mystery and thrillers it left me wanting. That's why I have given it an average score. Definitely nothing to write home about but if looking for a time filler this is your book.

Loved this book.

Wow what an amazing read, I had trouble putting it down. It kept me guessing till the end. A must read for anyone who likes suspense.

Masterful story

A fabulous tale of deception and intrigue with some twists I saw coming and some I didn’t. At first the constantly jumping timelines annoyed me but I soon settled in and adapted easily. Not the most suspenseful book I have read but certainly not predictable.

Learn from my mistake

I listened to over half of this (enough that returning it feels like a cheat), hoping it would get better, but it didn’t. Learn from my mistake and save ten hours of your life. First, there’s the story: a young teenaged girl is sexually assaulted, and it’s never even really addressed. I can understand it not being dealt with in the context of the story, but it’s like the author didn’t quite understand that even a “consensual” relationship between a teen girl and a much older teacher is hugely problematic. Then, the girl (now a woman) is casually gaslighted by every other character in the book “for her own good,” except the ones who serve no discernible purpose in the story (there are several of those). I hated everyone, and they were not complex characters that were fun to hate. They were all just dreadful.

Finally, a minor quibble: the writing, ugh. “‘Why do you say that?’ she asked, seeking information.” Yeah. We know she’s seeking information. She asked a question. Give us some credit.

Would have rated four stars if narrator was better

The story kept me engaged but it is probably a better read than audio book due to the irritating narration by Ms Knowelden. She speaks with a soft, breathy, sometimes whispering voice. That is not good in an audiobook. It's sometimes hard to hear but even more distracting is the irritating sound of breathy tones through a mechanized device. I am always amazed when professionals do not know to project and even moreso that the technical staff does not catch this problem. Mr. West's narration was good.

I managed to finishv this book...

I enjoyed the story this book offered, characters in the story were really great but it was just hard to tell who was talking at times and switching back and forth between timelines was just annoying.

I have to delete audible, I get nothing else done

this was another awesome book. I'm not sure if it's the same author as the Good Samaritan but it is the same narrator. such a wonderful book I finished it in less than 2 days but it kept me from my responsibilities. I'm seeing that this could become habit forming!!!
seriously another nail-biter with a suspenseful ending in addition to all the twists and turns within the book. Couldn't put it down

Depressing

Well, I just kept listening thinking that it would turn around.. Perhaps it was my POV , but I just could not get interested in all the darkness and fear of this tale. Can't get past 1/2! Interesting premise but not enough story to drive it on. I did like the juxtaposition of time and POV, but that was not enough Buy another book

Unique

It was good. The characters, their actions, and their motivations were believable. It’s interesting delving into the mind of a sick person who’s on the edge. The story was different and entertaining.

Wow

This was an emotional rollercoaster. Caroline Mitchell did a great job creating a character that I actually cared for. There were so many times when I wanted to give Emma a hug and her husband a kick in the pants. Luke was a true villain who deserved more than what he got. All in all this is a really good book and I will look for more by this author.

enjoyed the story and it was well narrated and never boring even if the characters reactions to events weren't always believable, still a very enjoyable book.

Awful narration!

The female voice was breathy whispers throughout which ruined the book for me, so I had to give up halfway through so couldn’t give more that 2 stars

Dreadful female narrator

This is a good story but the female narrator just spoils the whole experience by speaking with a breathy voice. Really really irritating but if you try to switch off from it and concentrate on the story, it’s pretty good.

Cringey male narration

I REALLY enjoyed this book - the story was interesting and gripping and made me want to listen on. However, the male narrator when reading the female parts was cringeworthy and reminiscent of Les Dennis doing his take on ‘Mavis’ from Coronation Street. Apart from that, a great story!
