Publisher's Summary

Ex-model Paige McCarty is fed up with being just a pretty face. After her ex-husband’s gambling problem left her royally screwed and tragically shoeless, she started Fool Me Once Investigations with her best friends, Lorlei and Kennedy, to prevent other women from being similarly played and dismayed.

The job: Act as bait for a cheating husband. The target: Matt Russo. The case should be as easy as getting a man’s attention - and Paige has never had trouble with that. The problem is Matt - in all his nerdy-hot glory - turns out to be not such a scumbag after all.

And when the case hits closer to home than Paige could ever have imagined - landing her in a face-off with the mob - she wonders if taking the job just to prove that she has a brain maybe wasn’t her best idea.

This second outing for the Fool Me Once team follows in the same fun, feisty footsteps as best-selling author Tara Sivec’s Shame on You.

    "This is escapism."

This series is light, easy and fun . Not everything we read must be serious. There's no moral story, it's taking your brain out to lunch! We all need that from time to time.

    "Not so cute this time"

After listening to Shame On You and finding it a light, fluffy humorous tongue in cheek take on the private detective genre i purchased the next two works in the series. This work of fluffy female fiction started out in the same vein but then veered off way past parody and into caricature. Caricature is certainly an excellent definition of both Paige's mother and Matt's father; too broadly defined for even a network sitcom or a Hallmark Channel movie. As was Paige's ex Andy; a whiny narcissistic excuse for a man completely lacking in testosterone.
The action scenes were once more, caricatures that played way too broadly. A mafia hit man being assaulted by a couple of old ladies with pocketbooks and canes; well sure. Not to mention Paige's mother becoming a gun happy vigilante. Then Paige is elbowed twice in the ribs and kicked in the stomach by the above mentioned hit man and thirty seconds later she is being given a "crushing" hug by Matt; not even a squeak of pain emerges from her.
There is a limit to how much belief can be suspended in the written or audio format. Those are types of scenes that can be only be conveyed effectively in a visual medium. Perhaps it was too short a time between the time I listened to the first and second book. Maybe this one aims too often for the easy laugh the scene which requires little imagination to write. For whatever reason this one fell far short of the first book in the series.

    Any additional comments?

This is one of my many free read and listen with KU and loved it. It is filled with lots of humor and some hot smexy scenes. Amy McFadden is quickly becoming one of my favorite female narrators. Tara Sivic is a new to me author, but I have see great reviews of her work. This is a book and series that I will be happy to purchase and keep in my library. I love being able to sample new authors and narrators with my KU and have actually purchased many of my free read and listens with KU so that I can keep them in my library. I highly recommend this book and series.

    "ehhh"

It was okay- awkward romantic interactions I felt but ...ok. A little too predictable, but I do like the way all the stories involve different aspects of the same group of characters.

    "Entertaining"

Understand that this is a chick book. A group of women who have been hurt by men in various ways, ie two cheating husbands, and a gambler. They pool their resources to open a PI business. They are taking a stand against men and taking back the control of their lives. They will no longer be the victims. Oh alive and contrary to saying all that, they do want to be love and respected for the strong women they are. And who wants to live with a vibrator long term.

There are two conflicts in the book. This book deals with Paige. Being a former model Paigne’s case deals with being the honey trap for a cheating husband, Matt Russo. Her persona conflict is her former husband is in money troubles from gambling and her needs her to bail him out. His life is being threaten, which put her life in danger. Of course, to relieve some of the pressure from his gambling debt, her ex-husband off loads his inability to pay the debt on her. Now her life is in danger.

Don’t expect a work of literature. This is purely an entertaining chick book. It was not as funny as the first book. That is because the author used a lot of the stereotypical
Irish Catholic, police family, only girl with three brothers scenarios.

Tara, the author got luck to be able to make the first one so funny. It did not happen here as much and for a credit that averages a price of, $11.95, I will not take use a credit for the next one.

Will I get the next one? If is on sale i.e. ($4.97 price). I would buy it for a time when I will be in a chick book mood.

I don't think I could enjoy this book as much as the first but you exceeded my expectations! I loved Paige's mom and Matthew's dad! Hysterical!!!!! Thanks. Can't wait to read the next one!

    "Another fun story"

I call this series my guilty pleasures books....so light, despite the bad guys, and fun despite the giggly girl stuff. I know they will get the guy(s)--both the bad one and Prince Charming. The narrator is great in this series, she is consistent in the voices she uses for each character. I have seen some titles from this author that sound more somber and serious, I think I will try one of those next.

"Cute, too short, story with interesting characters"

Lots of close friends and family interaction. I liked Paige working so hard to find her self-worth beyond being a pretty face as a model. Matt is fun, and nerdy-sexy. Paige’s ex is a royal pain in the butt. Paige’s mom and her friends are hysterical!

My only complaint is that the book is quite short, I wish it was longer.

    Excellently performed by Amy McFadden.

    "Shame on Me audio edition"

Well, I enjoyed the story. I read it a long time ago when I first joined the KU program. I recently discovered that could get some audio books through KU as well. That is why I chose this one. I like to listen to books that I have already read. I would best describe the narration as cute. At times though, it was almost too cute & ditzy. Good book overall.

    "A great performance"

I use this as the strap line because, having listened to this narrator performi on the other two Fool Me Once novels, she is very good with voices and dialects! So much so, that I hated the main characters' voice! Hated it! She did it so well!!

So my advice to you is, listen to a sample first - just in case you truly can't stand it! It's just right for this character, but it's really grating to listen to!
