Darren has two big talents: cricket and trouble. It is no surprise, then, that he becomes an Australian sporting star of the bad-boy variety - one of those men who's always got away with things and just keeps going...until the day we meet him, middle aged and in the boot of a car, and everything pointing towards a shallow grave.

Story
Eliza Grayling, born in Sydney when the colony itself was still an infant, has lived there all her 32 years. Too tall, too stern - too old, now - for marriage, she looks out for her reclusive father, Joshua, and wonders about his past. There is a shadow there: an old enmity. When Joshua Grayling is offered the chance for a reckoning with his nemesis, Eliza is horrified. It involves a sea voyage with an uncertain, probably violent, outcome. Insanity for an elderly blind man, let alone a drunkard.

Story
Jock Serong reimagines in urgent, compelling prose the ill-fated exploits of George Augustus Robinson at the settlement of Wybalenna. On the windswept point of an island at the edge of van Diemen’s Land, the Commandant huddles with a small force of white men and women. He has gathered together, under varying degrees of coercion and duress, the last of the Tasmanians, or so he believes. His purpose is to save them—from a number of things, but most pressingly from the murderous intent of the pastoral settlers on their country.

Story
DS Lucas Walker is on leave in his hometown, Caloodie, looking after his dying grandmother. When two young German backpackers vanish from the area on their way to a ranch, he finds himself unofficially on the case. But why all the interest from the Federal Police, when they have probably just ditched the heat and dust of the outback for the coast? As the number of days the couple are missing climbs, DS Walker is joined by the girl's sister. A detective herself from Berlin, she is desperate to find her before it's too late.

I really enjoy Jock Sarong’s style. The characters are believable and the story line has me committed right to the end….and I really enjoy the dry humour.

Worthy of the Ned Kelly Award
A great listen, very Australian and engrossing.
I read (Listened) to Quota fresh from reading The Rules of Backyard Cricket. I enjoyed both immensely.
Characters were well developed and authentic.
BUT: The opening is a little incorrect. If a Judge went on the way the Judge did in the book. It would be grounds for a miss trial.
Other than that Quota is a very enjoyable book, open to a sequel and I look forward to the next Jock Serong Book.
Simon Harvey is a good narrator and gave the book its authenticity.

UN able to put this one down!
Once you get over the intro of skippy euthanasia and graffic profanity this book is a winner. Honest natural narration. Electric story line and fast. Plausible.
Recommend this book for Rake lovers and yes there is a un expected laugh. Currently reading recommended.
