Publisher's Summary

Louie Cogburn had spent three days holed up in his apartment, staring at his computer screen. His pounding headache was unbearable - like spikes drilling into his brain. And it was getting worse. Finally, when someone knocked at his door, Louie picked up a baseball bat, opened the door, and started swinging...

The first cop on the scene fired his stunner twice and Louie died instantly. Detective Eve Dallas has taken over the investigation, but there's nothing to explain the man's sudden rage or death. The only clue is a bizarre message left on his computer screen: Absolute Purity Achieved.

And when a second man dies under nearly identical circumstances, Dallas starts racking her brain for answers and for courage to face the impossible... that this might be a computer virus able to spread from machine to man....

And they just get better. Well narrated, love the comical interludes, the twists at the end.

2023 AUDIBLE REVIEW
I have started buying the audible books and have listened to the audio book version as well.
Enjoying these in audible as long as I listen at 1.3 speed or else the narration drives me nuts.
BOOK REVIEW
Really enjoyable tagging along on this one. Stayed up late to finish it.
Tension, camaraderie and smart comebacks abound.
It is a hard dilemma of conscience as to justice and criminal activity in this one.
Though I understand the thinking and feelings of rage at the way criminals go free, I agree with Eve that there cannot be vigilantism but I also agree with Roarke, that the ones targeted were no loss to civilisation.
And I loved the twist at the end, didn’t see her involved but the personal gain side made sense.
So very sad too at the loss of one of their own.
McNab is badly injured and moved to Eve and Roarke’s home for Summerset to look after, then so is Peabody and in the line of duty.
Agreed with Eve about having to let two pieces of a nasty pie go free when they should be in jail for the rest of their miserable lives.
I have read all of these books twice already as I own most in paperback and am slowly collecting the kindle versions too.
I am rereading this series once more, updating and replacing missing reviews.
I do find it annoying that these books have not been corrected for errors before being recovered and rereleased, usually at higher prices.
Chief Tibble is called Tibbie way too many times in this book and Cogburn is often called Cogbum.
