Publisher's Summary

After an epic and interrupted journey all the way from the snows of South Dakota, Jack Reacher has finally made it to Virginia. His destination: a sturdy stone building a short bus ride from Washington D.C., the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. It was the closest thing to a home he ever had. Why? He wants to meet the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner. He liked her voice on the phone. But the officer sitting behind Reacher’s old desk isn't a woman. Why is Susan Turner not there?

What Reacher doesn’t expect is what comes next. He himself is in big trouble, accused of a sixteen-year-old homicide. And he certainly doesn't expect to hear these words: ‘You’re back in the army, Major. And your ass is mine.’Will he be sorry he went back? Or – will someone else?

Critic Reviews

"It's said that a Jack Reacher novel is bought every four seconds somewhere in the world… Lee Child's genius has been to create a tough guy hero that men will envy and women will adore" ( Daily Express)

The character just keeps on improving

Firstly I think Jeff Harding continues to capture the essence of who Jack Reacher is in his narration. What I found was the delivery of Reacher’s dry sense of humour was outstanding.
Lee Child’s writing keeps getting better. I was also glad the book was different to the movie.
Thank you Lee Child and Jeff Harding for providing hours of enjoyable listening.

Entertaining story

The story was well written, believable, and entertaining. The naration was good, but seemed to be reluctant, like the narrator didnt really want to be reading this story. Or maybe its my misinterpretation and was trying to give the charactor a sence of reluctant authority. In any event if you like Lee childs story's of Jack Reacher you should get this book.

loved it!

I nearly didn't do this one because I'd seen the movie. I liked the movie but didn't see the point doing the same story twice. I'm glad I did. quite different to the movie and I enjoyed the interaction between reacher & turner... among other things.

Reacher my favourite drifter

Imagine heading home to the one thing that you had always had and now didn't know if you like it or not, do you fit or not
Reacher does his thing in true style and for once I'm guessing Reacher wanted something more, but in the end he got what he has always had, his nomad heart destined to always roam.

One of the best Reachers

What made the experience of listening to Never Go Back the most enjoyable?

It brought together the past and the present and introduced new characters for Reacher to play with.

What did you like best about this story?

Reacher is still taking no prisoners but he proved that he is not feral.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The escape!

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

NO MOVIE - could not do it justice.

Any additional comments?

Write quicker Lee Child - I only have 2 more Reacher's to go and I am not ready to move on in my life without more Reacher. AND I LOVE Jeff Hardings voice - he is REACHER.

The usual good old Jack Reacher

If you are a Reacher fan and just want the good old type of double / trople cross with a twist, oh, and the blood and guts, well in this case, brains, then this is for you

It’s not the film

Thankfully the book is not like the film of the same name. I have nothing against film, or Tom Cruise but it’s refreshing to read/listen to a book that has little to do with the film. If you’re interested in an adaptation of the film, then you should get that one, I believe it is just as easy to get as the original version.

All in all another really good book from Lee Child in the Jack Reacher series. I hope to read the next one soon.
