Publisher's Summary

1957. Lord James Harrington and his wife, Beth, run a country hotel in the village of Cavendish, deep in the heart of West Sussex. James and Beth are discussing the latest Cavendish Players production, The Devil Incarnate, when their cleaner informs them that farmer Alec Grimes is missing.

When James finds Grimes dead, he is certain of foul play. But the doctor says he died of natural causes, and even good friend Detective Chief Inspector George Lane dismisses his suspicions. So James decides to put his own sleuthing skills to the test....

"I'm Officially Hooked On Lord Harrington "

Now that I'm totally attached to these characters you simply must add the other ones from this series to your list of offerings at Audible,... not fair getting me hooked without a follow up .

    "Too much to eat"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People who like to focus on food

Would you ever listen to anything by Lynn Florkiewicz again?

    Probably not

What three words best describe David Thorpe’s performance?

    He did a good job

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

There was so much about food in this book that one wonders why it wasn’t titled "Lord James Harrington and Eating in West Sussex." I did not enjoy these parts of the book (there were way too many) but if you take out all the food, it is an average murder mystery. No surprise -- there was a recipe at the end!

    "OK"

quite a good yarn if you are in the mood for some lighthearted stereotypical sleuthing.

David reads well, and yes you really can hear the smile in his voice at times. I am not sure it is worth $20 or about that, but a credit from a Platinum member is not too much.

If you have heard all the Peter Temple stories and know all Lord Peter's tales (Sawyer) and you know most of Agatha's by heart, then this will be a welcome newcomer.

If it comes up on a special sale, all the better.

"The wife is a real DITZ"

Not wanting to give away the story, but she really is an idiot. She consistently reverses her opinions, even in the same conversation. Married to a man all those years, yet belittles him when he explained his concerns. Not once, but numerous times. Then of course threw everything into the soup. She really made me tired. I enjoyed the other characters, though, especially Bert. Lots of dialogue about food and clothing, even to the color of the clothes. Filler?
