Publisher's Summary

The course of Frank Mackey's life was set by one defining moment when he was 19. The moment his girlfriend, Rosie Daly, failed to turn up for their rendezvous in Faithful Place, failed to run away with him to London as they had planned. Frank never heard from her again. Twenty years on, Frank is still in Dublin, working as an undercover cop. He's cut all ties with his dysfunctional family. Until his sister calls to say that Rosie's suitcase has been found.

Frank embarks on a journey into his past that demands he re-evaluate everything he believes to be true.

well written, well read

fascinating plot and moments of laugh-out-loud humour -- a rare treat in a crime fiction.

What a read!!

Just loved this book full of the flavours of the hard life of the poor Irish and a family fractured by domestic violence and the dreams of a better life torn to shreds.. so real! So well written and read

Excellent plot and characters, engaging

This was the first book I have read/listened to by Tana French and it absolutely turned me into a fan. Her characters are so complex and real that I went searching to see if this was based on true crime. I would love to know how French keeps track of such a complex and intricate plot, she must have an incredible mind to write these stories.

I struggle to find novels that engage me as this one did as I lose interest very quickly. This one kept me interested to the last word.

I also enjoyed the narrator who reads beautifully.

A Good Book

Interesting story, not the best in the Dublin Murder Squad series. The historic detail about The Liberties ( part of Dublin) is really interesting, and details Dublin’s inner city working class area and the tight knit community. Still worth a read.
