Publisher's Summary

The US President, along with most of the Cabinet and Congress, is dead. Dazed and confused, the man who only minutes before had been confirmed as the new Vice-President of the United States is told that he is now President.

President John Patrick Ryan.

With stunning force, Ryan's responsibilities crush on him. He must calm an anxious and grieving nation, all while attempting to reconstitute a Cabinet and a Congress with the greatest possible speed.

But that is not all. Both within Washington DC and across the globe, there are those eager to act on the animosity towards the United States and others from Jack Ryan's past that harbour a grudge towards the new President himself. Soon they will present Jack Ryan with a crisis so big even he cannot imagine it.

Critic Reviews

"His plotting here is masterful, as is his strumming of patriotic heartstrings. This is heavyweight entertainment." ( Publishers Weekly, Starred Review)
"Vintage Clancy ... The conclusion features the most harrowing battlefield prose Clancy has written since Red Storm Rising." ( Bookpage)

Better than reading it yourself.

I’ve read this book many many times but the audible is so much better! I’ve picked up things I’ve missed, I found myself stopping whatever I was doing while listening to just listen and become fully engrossed in the story. Some of the things that were written about are spot on today - I am truly amazed at how good writers can do this. Jack Ryan stories are my favourite and Tom Clancy is a superb writer!

Entertaining story read by someone with no emotion

This is one of Clancy's most complex novels, not linear but jumping across the world and in and out of character plots faster than a New York express train flitting by stations. Reading the book it's easy to follow the multiple narratives but be warned! The Audible version is read in a deathly monotone. it is great to help get you to sleep, but frustrating when you cannot pay the narrator 100% of your attention. One second you're hearing about the President of the United States, the next it is some random dude on a plane. It takes a while sometimes to realise the narrative has switched. Overall a good book, but a tour de force of non sequitors in this audiobook format.

If only.

Great book. Tom Clancy never disappoints. Here he provides a blueprint for governments on how to handle an outbreak of a deadly virus with no cure. If only future presidents could be bothered to read it. Plenty of action and intrigue thrown in and this is an all time top 5 for me.

Executive Orders

Excellent story, but as a female, I found all the extended battle talk did drag on a little . Good book to read in these uncertain times 2021😭

Amazing! Especially right now

You can tell it is fiction by the way certain people immediately reacted to a viral outbreak.

Life does not imitate art here

Great book. Love listening to Clancy if there were a few more time based predictions of future events people would think he is the modern Nostradamus

Pritchard is back!!! Really makes up for the forgettable narration of the previous two books

What Can I Say

I read a few of The Clancy books over the past couple of decades and loved them. That was when I was working the long hours and fitting reading in when I could. Now with eyesight gone and a lot more time on my hands I’m going through the Audio series and loving them. Executive Orders of course has its slow moments but boy oh boy Clancy certainly knows how to put it all together for an absolute CLIMATIC FINALE. The last 10 hours I could hardly drag myself away from the book. Also nobody could outdo Michael Pritchards brilliant narration. I’m hooked and don’t think a month will pass without my listening to a Tom Clancy Epic.
