Publisher's Summary

A young woman's body is discovered on a deserted footpath.

It seems like a simple crime for DCI Sophie Allen and her team to solve. But not when the victim's mother is found strangled the next morning. The case grows more complex as DCI Sophie Allen discovers that the victims had secret histories involving violence and intimidation. There's an obvious suspect, but Detective Allen isn't convinced. Could someone else be lurking in the shadows, someone savagely violent, looking for warped revenge?

Dark Crimes is the first in a series of detective thrillers featuring DCI Sophie Allen, head of the newly formed Violent Crime Unit in Dorset. She is pushed to the limit in her first major case as the team's head.

Could not Listen to this Narration

After more than 15 years being an Audible member this is one of the few listens I’ve given up on. The narration is appalling. I listened at speed 1.2 and it was minutely more bearable. No Dorset accents in Swanage. Other accents were unidentifiable and invented but worse, they constantly changed for the same characters. I still have no idea what nationality DI McReady (excuse if my spelling is incorrect) is trying to be. I can’t comment on the story because I was unable to concentrate on it. I am grateful this was included in my membership and I didn’t use a credit.

Narrator let the story down

Good story but let down by the narrator. Strange pauses, uneven speed and sometimes the characterisations/accents changed. This particularly disrupted the story as I had to check who was speaking.

Good story but….

An engaging story that kept you guessing, but the narration wasn’t good at all. Even though the story was very good, and I’m sure the series would be worth listening to I wont be buying any more with this narrator.

Poor narration

The story was ok but the narrator was terrible. I wouldn’t choose another title with the same narrator.

Detective British Style

Appears to be the start of another British Police detective series, which has a great intertwined storyline. In my humble opinion the performance by the Narrator is not quite right! Looking forward to further books in the series!

Couldnt Finish

Sorry to say the narration has put me off this book & I cant finish listening to it. I've been trying to articulate what exactly is wrong with narration & I think it's the rythmn & as if she is reading it to an audience cold, rather than narrating a story that she has some familiarity with . The story had potential & I liked Sophie's character.

Irritating narration

This is the first time I have found the narrator to be so awful. Also found the storyline a bit disjointed.

oh my, the narration was AWFUL

I found the story interesting; I really did want to know what happened next, so I persevered. The narration sounded like I was listening to a really bad episode of Thomas the Tank Engine - and even then, that's generous. This story is for Kindle.
