A CIA agent’s two-year-old child was stolen in the night as a brutal act of vengeance. Nine years later, Catherine Ling’s instincts - maternal and professional - tell her that her son is still alive, but she needs the help of someone as driven and obsessed as she is to find him - and that person is Eve Duncan. Eve has walked this same path and shares Catherine’s nightmare, having endured the disappearance of her own daughter, Bonnie. Now Eve must raise her game as a forensic sculptor to another level, using the science of age progression to unite mother and son. But as she is drawn deeper into Catherine’s horror, Eve must face looming demons of her own.
Whoever took Bonnie is still out there, and Eve will never rest until he is brought to justice and Bonnie brought home. With two indomitable women enduring the worst fear any mother can imagine, Iris Johansen’s latest thrill ride is a testament to a mother’s fierce love and devotion and a gut-wrenching journey into the darkest places of the soul.
I loved this! Catherine is a fabulous character. I adore the idea of other characters loving someone other than Eve--and there is so much to love as she is a female version of Joe: gorgeous, directed, strong. She brings out the sexiness of Joe. He was starting to act like a soppy idiot; taking all of Eve's insistance on putting herself and everyone in danger AND all the men who for some reason seem to want Eve.
I even like her side kick Kelly, another Jane BUT with substance--her role is more than just loving Catherine. She can and does help the group in more ways than just her talent.
I can hardly wait for the next book--and I had about given up on Johansen's and her very rude female characters. Chasting the Night allows the reader to LIKE the female characters--and respect them because they don't do very stupid things.

Very enjoyable listen. Have been a fan of Iris Johansen's for several years and will continue to be an appreciating fan as long as she is writing.

I think this is maybe the worst book I've ever listened to. If I could give it a negative star I would. The storyline is not believable, the characters unreal, accents bad and dialogue written at a grade school level. The characters have to say everything out loud because the author appears to be limited in conveying feelings or emotions through the written word - causing one reviewer to state "show, don't tell". This is the first book I've listened to by this author so maybe that is why it seems worse to me than to others. My husband tried to listen to it and just gave up.

This book held my interest in spite of the fact that it contained a constant dialogue of mild profanity. There were no f___ bombs and the dialogue did not out-weight the story or the characters. All in all I would recommend this book to others.

I enjoyed this thriller. The story line easily lends itself to making the listener want to hear the next one. I will get more in the series!

wow! this was really good, I CANT WAIT TO LISTEN TO THE NEXT BOOK! YAY!
Would you consider the audio edition of Chasing the Night to be better than the print version?
Who was your favorite character and why?
Eve, as the main character, she is smart, talented, thinks on her feet and you can empathize with her own loss and yet she extends herself to help others.
What does Jennifer Van Dyck bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She was great at keeping each character sounding the way they were supposed to but also expressing emotion.
Any additional comments?
Too young for me. Characters and their reactions are predictable and overdone for my taste. Liked the narrator.
There are Harsh, scary, unreachable villains. the heroes find ways to overcome inescapable and unsolvable problems. What a ride. wow!
Who doesn't love Eve and Joe? I especially enjoyed meeting so many new and interesting characters :) can wait to read more ! Great narrorator as well!!
Couldn't really distinguish between the characters vocally, all a bit samey but I persevered because the story was really good
