A young woman's body is found in a remote barn on the Fens. Before she was killed, one of her fingers had been cut off. Who is inflicting this violence and why?
The young woman in the barn had been kept captive for some time. And the case shows strong similarities to an unsolved murder in Derbyshire. When another woman is found alive with similar injuries, the case grows even more complicated.
At the same time, the Fenland police have received intelligence that the ruthless criminal Freddy Carver plans to make Greenborough the hub for his new enterprise. DI Nikki Galena is desperate to track down Freddie Carver and make sure that he does not put down roots in the Fens, but finding him is not easy. And what's his connection to the kidnapped girls?

One of the Best Yet
I loved this one - just like I have the others in the series. These stories are quick, suspenseful and well-constructed. They are by no means award-winning masterpieces in their own right, but they are definitely a treat to consume, particularly as a series in whole. I think this book was my favourite out of the series so far, despite being a tiny bit predictable when it came to the ending.
As always, the characters are excellent and story flowed well. The narration was perfection as always. One of my favourite narrators to listen to.
Definitely recommend this one!

Great story, terrible narration
Another great story from the author, spoilt only by the narrator. I slow the play down to 0.8 or 0.85 and the voice becomes bearable.

Great Story
Once again, another great story with lots of twists and turns, and I absolutely love the narrator she gets all the accents perfect and you really can feel the difference in the characters highly recommend

Loved the story but struggled with the narrator
I have read (listened to) all of the DI Jackman books and loved them and perhaps I was spoilt by the narration by (the dreamy) Richard Armitage because even though I thoroughly enjoyed this story I found the narrator distracting (and at times dreadful) I had trouble telling characters apart, I couldn’t tell their gender and I cringed every time Cat Cullin spoke. I’m keen to read more but I think I’ll be borrowing the actual books from the library.

Another satisfying and juicy plot!
There are dead or missing women on the Fens and DI Nikki Galena & DS Jospeh Easter and the team are chasing a crime boss who has so far evaded capture or prosecution. Although the captivities were quite disturbing, I enjoyed the multiple cases and storylines woven through this book with Joy Ellis’s usual mix of the professional and personal lives of the team. This was extra satisfying because it tied up a few unresolved subplots that have been alluded to over a few books. Henrietta Meire’s narration is the only reason for the missing star - her voice and enunciation continue to vex me.

Ooooh!!! Tension.
I loved this latest installment of Nikki, Joseph and the gang. Cracker of a story with lots of twists and turns and then at the epilogue, ooooh tension. Can't wait to hear the next book.

The intricacies and human stories
My favourite Nikki Galena book - I thoroughly enjoy this series and have listened repeatedly to it - I particularly love this book sure to the resolution of some ongoing mysteries and the underlying love stories - I would like to know how both the captives fair 😬 another book?
