Publisher's Summary

Rodney Williams's disappearance seems typical to Chief Inspector Wexford - a simple case of a man running off with a woman other than his wife. But when another woman reports that her husband is missing, the case turns unpleasantly complex.

Reading Rendell is such an interesting trip into the misogyny that pervaded not so long ago

I’m fascinated at reading the Wexford books. It reminds of how women were treated, thought of and dismissed. One black character introduced in this book and the character patronised to the point Of racism. With absolutely no psychological training the incest is dismissed out of hand and the accuser labeled psychotic. This book does not age
well.

Rendell dates somewhat

Good basic story but whereas Agatha Christie had such a light sparkling humorous hand and Ruth dishes out her moral opinions barely disguised as discovery of her characters. She’s totally out of her depth with incest.

Rendell's Twists Again

Reliable Rendell twisted tales with well-drawn characters written into dramatic tales. A great, exciting read.
