Publisher's Summary

Penelope Keith stars as Agatha Raisin in two full-cast BBC Radio 4 dramas.

After a lifetime spent in public relations, the drinking and smoking one-woman dynamo that is Agatha Raisin struggles to adapt to life in a quiet Cotswold village.

Penelope Keith stars again as Agatha Raisin - Miss Marple with attitude - in the fourth volume of full-cast dramas based on the best-selling books by M.C. Beaton.

The Terrible Tourist

Now that their marriage plans have collapsed, Agatha is furious to find that James is taking a holiday on the island where they were to have their honeymoon. But when she sets out in pursuit of him, she stumbles upon another murder.

The Fairies of Fryfam

Having been hurt by James once too often, Agatha takes a trip to the Cornish village of Fryfam and is soon disturbed by some strange lights at the bottom of the garden.

The Absent Fairies

I notified Audible that this download only contains ONE of these books-- The Terrible Tourist. Athough they gave me a refund, they have failed to update the book title. This is an excellent audiobook; Ms Keith does a fantastic job reading it. But it is NOT what Audible advertises, and they KNOW that this title is falsely represented. If you bought it thinking both titles were here, contact them for a refund as I did. Shame on you, Audible; I thought that you were better than this.

This is an audiobook - not a radio/TV program

Review title says it all.

As noted in another review, only The Terrible Tourist is included - read by Penelope Keith.
.
The title, program type identification and cover art for the offering belong to a different audio.

Only one of the stories is on this download!

Buyer beware - this download contains only The Terrible Tourist.
That tale is great fun and Penelope Keith is fabulous - I really enjoyed what was there - but audible needs to delete the Fairies of Fryham title.

Short radio adaptations. Skip this and buy full-length editions.

I listen to and enjoy BBC4 where these programs likely aired. Unfortunately, not only are these two novels dreadfully condensed, they are the serial versions and not the omnibus versions one can often hear over on BBC4 extra, so you end up listening to the programme introductions and music mid-recording multiple times. Distracting and annoying. Why not deliver the omnibus version?

The stories are good, but to enjoy all the fun of the plot and the characters, listening to the whole novel would really be far superior to this badly condensed edition. You’re actually getting about 1/5 of each of these novels in these recordings.

Skip this and buy the actual full-length edition.

Gorgeous Dramatization

Well done! Penelope Keith's performance was dynamic and nuanced, as usual. The writing in this abridged version was spot on.

No Penelope Keith Please

What did you love best about Agatha Raisin: The Terrible Tourist and Fairies of Frylam (Dramatisation)?

I love the story line, the production was a good BBC performance

Have you listened to any of Penelope Keith’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes I have, and I really do not like that she took the Agatha Raisin series. As an English person it is really really disturbing to hear her trying to speak with Low or West county accents.
She does posh well and that is that.

NOT a dramatization - again

Penelope Keith is a good reader, and the Agatha Raisin series is pretty good, but don't take the description here too literally - this is not a dramatization. It's a narration.

I wish the Audible people would check the recordings before they post descriptions like 'another full-cast dramatization'.

Hard Going

I normally love the Agatha Raisin series, especially the dramatisations. This narrative is very tedious. I'm sorry to say Penelope Keith's voice in this telling is shrill and waring after about 10mins. As for the dreadful attempt at a Cypriot accent...Oh dear, it's quite painful.

It's OK

This version is a dramatisation of the two stories, featuring Penelope Keith. It's similar ot the other BBC Agatha Raisin radio drama series but not quite as good; fewer character voices and realistic sound effects. This is a huge improvement on the previous unabridged reading of the two titles on offer with Audible. The two other reviews on here refer to the old version.

Not the best

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I found the story in the second one obvious, which is unusual.

If you’ve listened to books by M. C. Beaton before, how does this one compare?

It wasn't the best one so far, but I still love the series.

Have you listened to any of Penelope Keith’s other performances? How does this one compare?

She is always wonderful.

Could you see Agatha Raisin: The Terrible Tourist and Fairies of Frylam (Dramatisation) being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

They have been on TV but the main characters were way too young. Ashley Jensen always great but too young for the part. Should have been someone like Celia Imrie for Agatha, even though she is slightly older. She would be perfect.

Any additional comments?

Can't wait to listen to more of these. Love them.

Comfortable listening!

Another enjoyable dramatisation. Two abridged stories, both well performed. Do not expect convoluted plot lines and high drama, more of a comfort blanket!...and very nice too!!!
Penelope Keith is a perfect vessel for Agatha's biting sarcasm and wit.
More please!😊

A Bit Disappointing

I have loved the Agatha Raisin books but felt that this adaptation was a bit light and didn't do the original story justice. That said I enjoyed it.

Full BBC Cast?

I love Agatha Raisin, I love the full BBC Cast audiobooks - but am tentative about buying this one as it sounds as though it's just Penelope Keith narrating. Listening to the preview it sounds as though no one else stars. Any one have this audiobook to let us know?
