A really handy guide that I thoroughly enjoyed. Easy to listen to and very informative.

The chapters well organised in the order of which you would face things from birth. There were some great examples I hadn't heard of which were informative. I felt some studies of the topics were glossed over without more information or the type of study and why it was good or bad was focused on in more detail than the results/affects.

It was a good read but I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wanted to understand things in more detail. The American audio voice was also a little annoying at times.

Great book for those about to or just had a baby. “Expecting better” was my pathway to this book and I’m, again, not disappointed. Narration was amazing as well. Definitely recommend.

Parenting advice can be a morass of anecdote, opinion and traditional teachings which may be unquestioningly followed but seldom reflected upon. Finally, we have a book that examines the many issues that new parents will face. It examines the evidence around each topic to find out what we do know as well as what we don't so you can make a more informed decision about taking care of your child. Highly recommended.

I loved this book. I will buy the hard copy for future reference. It gives sound advice from a data driven perspective. The narrator is fantastic, and the information is relevant and well organised. Would recommend.

emily has written a great book looking at the actual research behind headlines. eg co sleeping increases the risk of sids. she reveals that risk is extremely low and then looks into what the benefits of seperate sleeping will do. she has a few biases but freely admits them. her judgement is sound and its great read for factual driven drones.

in a freakonomics way she breaks down the boring numbers for easy consumption. I have to say she overexplained a few things and I found her own application of the data for her own parenting fairly dull tangents. this book would have been a riveting informative read at 66% of what it is now. that is being nit picky. im sure plenty of others will enjoy her personal touch.

If you like objective facts and summaries of research, this is not the book for you. This is one woman's experience, and her understanding of facts to help make sense of the journey. Quite subjective and has a definitive flavour of disliking doctors and interventions. Definitely not the book to read if you like medical-based or truly objective facts. The narrator's voice is also very casual which reinforces the 'one Mum's experience' feel of the book.

If you enjoy just hearing straight facts for 10+ hours, you may like this book. It was interesting to learn some of the data but most topics had a conclusion of "you just have to decide for yourself". If you are a high-stress worrier, I would NOT recommend reading this as it will give you new things to worry about that you would have probably never thought of and are unnecessary to worry about. This book was recommended to me as "the best parenting book they ever read" so I had very high expectations.
