Story
There is a new revolution happening in sports as more and more athletes are basing their success on this game-changing combination: health, nutrition, training, recovery, and mindset. Unfortunately, the evidence-based techniques that the expert PhDs, academic institutions, and professional performance staffs follow can be in stark contrast to what many athletes actually practice. When combined with the noise of social media, old-school traditions, and bro-science, it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction.

Publisher's Summary
In the world of strength and conditioning, learning how to move others not just physically, but also psychologically and emotionally is paramount to getting the most out of them. People are the ultimate performance variable, and understanding how to effectively blend knowledge of proper training with the nuances of human behavior is integral to helping athletes achieve their ultimate goals. Unfortunately, while much attention has been given to the science of physical training, little attention has been given to the science of communication.
Conscious Coaching: The Art and Science of Building Buy-In bridges this gap. Listeners learn the foundational principles of improving relationships, enhancing engagement, and gaining the trust of athletes through targeted communication. And, every bit as important, listeners also learn concrete strategies to apply these principles in day-to-day coaching situations they will inevitably encounter.
The result is a game-changing book that has been used by professional sports teams, Fortune 500 companies, Universities, multinational coaching organizations and the United States Special Forces that sets the stage for coaches and leaders of all kinds to create a culture of success not only within sport, but also beyond. Conscious Coaching is a movement and its time has come.

Resourceful, Wholesome, & Honest
It's quite common throughout the book for the author to reference supplemental material for which he bases his book on. Don't just take the author's word for it. He references his research and findings so you the skeptic can also see for yourself.
To be the best coach you must first master yourself. Be wholesome and acknowledge, accept, and improve your areas of opportunity. This is the method to teach others organically and not treat others like "robots". I felt like this was the bread and butter of the book.
Finally, the words written by the author were simple, honest, and easy to understand.
Now onto my next @audible listen of "The Upside of Your Dark Side" which was reference by @coach_brettb.

Very much enjoyed the book and found the material insightful and useful. I’m certain it will go far to improve my own coaching of my clients and the coaching of my staff.
I’ve only listened to a handful of audio books but am beginning to appreciate it more when the author reads the book her/himself. The character voices on this one were unnecessary and annoying at times.

Solid story, weird voices from the reader
Just can't get past the voices this guy chooses for the different characters. A different accent for each person, and he's not shy about stereotyping characters - listen to the a cent for the female coach. The accents are not at all necessary for the delivery of the content. It's just odd, and a bit distracting. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the accents.
The content of the book is great, but if you can, buy it and read it yourself.

A tedious listening experience
It's rare that I don't get past the first hour of an audiobook but 'Oh My God!' this was tedious.
It's often a bad omen when someone starts out their book chapter with a bible quote. Worse yet was quoting the so-called motivational speaker but actual religious bible pusher Joyce Mayer.
I don't care if the author thinks the term 'buy-in' is overused or abused. He does nothing to fully clarify how that is so or why he thinks he has it right. He goes on about it at length.
The childhood story was painful to listen to, even on double speed. Not remotely interesting and I spaced out. I may have missed all the promised good stuff later on but I could not proceed any further.
Thankfully, audible offer exchanges on any and all audiobooks purchased otherwise it would have been a wasted credit.
