Publisher's Summary

The new heart-stopping instalment in the Four Streets saga, from the Sunday Times best seller Nadine Dorries.

Christmas is coming to the Four Streets. But so is trouble. In the biting cold there is no work for the men on the docks, no food for their tough, resilient womenfolk to put on the table. Children go hungry. What wouldn't their mothers give for just one cuppa?

News comes of a tramp steamer making its slow way through the thick yellow fog of the Mersey. Ready for the men of the Four Streets to siphon off some of its precious cargo: tea, cigarettes, rum, rice, bananas and dried fruit, treasure to store in lucky shed seven with its broken lock, before being shared out between hungry families.

There's just one problem. Copper Frank 'The Skank' Wright and his wife are moving into Tommy and Maura Doherty's old house, and Frank is out for some high-profile arrests. Meanwhile, Tommy and Maura have heard the news and are on their way home from Ireland. There is always drama on the Four Streets. Especially at Christmas.

The best series I have ever read.

Nadine Dorries has done it again, my favourite series by far, i laughed & I cried. I loved every minute of this book & I'm praying Nadine writes another for the series. I've read all her books & I cannot fault any of them. So beautifully written & uplifting, just fantastic. I cant recommend the 4 streets series enough.

Enjoyable, but not Dorries' best

I'm not really sure how I felt about this book. It seemed oddly discombobulated to me in a way, like the peak came too late and it was all wrapped up just a little too neatly.
I realise Nadine Dorrries likes to introduce new characters with each book of a series, but for me it didn't quite work this time around. Having grown fond of the characters in the first three books, I didn't really care for the new ones that somehow were never mentioned before, and in places it seemed like pure filler and not really helpful to the story.
Emma Gregory's narration was okay, but not great. She seemed to have forgotten the voices she used previously, and there was a bit of a strained quality to her narration at times. She also used a Liverpudlian accent for an Irish character.
Overall I enjoyed the book. I would be happy to read another from the series.

Absorbing and addictive

I love the four streets saga and this forth book was as absorbing as all the others. Nadine Dorries brings to life her characters in such a way you feel as though you are right there with them. Emma Gregory is the perfect narrator for this book and adds to the enjoyment. I was sorry when it ended and hope there will be another.

Coming home to the four streets

I adore these series of the four streets by Nadine Dorries all 4 books are so well read. Times were hard for these men and woman and it certainly brings it home to you in these books. I would advise anyone to purchase all 4 of these books as when one is finished you can't wait to find out what came next in their lives. I loved the fact that all 4 books kept Kitty alive (so sad how she was treated by the nun's and the priest and what a fitting way to treat someone who had abused a child) (don't we all wish they could be treated in the same way as we all have found out in resent years these sick men and women can not be cured). I highly recommend all 4 books.
