Publisher's Summary

During the course of a career that began in the 1940s, Lenny Bruce challenged the sanctity of organized religion and other societal and political conventions and widened the boundaries of free speech. Critic Ralph Gleason said, "So many taboos have been lifted, and so many comics have rushed through the doors Lenny opened. He utterly changed the world of comedy." He died in 1966 at the age of 40, his influence on the worlds of comedy, jazz, and satire incalculable, and How to Talk Dirty and Influence People - now republished to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Lenny Bruce's death - remains a brilliant existential account of his life and the forces that made him the most important and controversial entertainer in history.

Well done

The rhythm of the narrative is refreshingly upbeat, despite the often despairing conditions Lenny Bruce describes. It’s a humorous, ironic and often absurd portrait of a comedian who suffered for pointing out the hypocrisy of the society around him.
The narration is excellent throughout, capturing the accent, cadence and intonation to perfection.
The over-laudatory preface is quite tedious - the usual exercise in superlatives - a dull start to what is a remarkable audiobook.

As relevant now as at was then

A gripping yarn told by one of the brightest. The performance was excellent and sounds just like the real deal.

Autobiography??? Mmmmmm!!!

Promising start, but loses its way half way through. Last few chapters were a struggle to finish. The performance of the reader is what keeps the book from completely falling apart..
A fan of Lenny, but sadly not the book!!
