Publisher's Summary

Was it a case of murder by committee at The Gillibry Island Bird Obsevatory Trust? The members of the executive committee had gathered for an amiable weekend of serious bird-watching. They had hardly expected Charlie Todd, who owned the island, to announce that he planned to sell it. A sale would mean the end of the observatory....

When, the next morning, they found Charlie dead in a bird hide, their pleasant September weekend assumed a dangerous new face. The last committee member, George Palmer-Jones, amateur detective and former Home Office staffer, arrived just in time to confirm that most of them had reason to hate Charlie Todd, and one of them had almost certainly killed him. And would almost certainly kill again....

Come death and high water

Love the story line, it kept me guessing right to very end. Another crime masterpiece by Ann cleaves. Would recommend this book to anyone, it was well narrated by Sean Barrett, looking forward to the book in the series. 5 star.

Suspense and suspension

Once I got used to the narrator, which I did before the end of the first chapter, it was gripping. I did need to get the characters in my head with an odd time having to re listening to a chapter or two.

A study in grey

What disappointed you about Come Death and High Water?

The characters are totally.... bloodless.... and without form.

What was most disappointing about Ann Cleeves’s story?

This is a non-story.... the plot is as insipid as the characters....

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator sounds as though he just can’t be bothered.......

What character would you cut from Come Death and High Water?

It’d scrap the entire book.....

Any additional comments?

How can an author like Ann Cleeves who wrote the Vera and Shetland novels come up with something so dire.... a complete waste of her time writing it.... thd publisher’s time in releasing it....and my time listening to it.....hoping I can send it back......:o
