About this listen

Two rural families flee to the city and find themselves sharing a great, breathing, shuddering joint called Cloudstreet, where they begin their lives from scratch. For 20 years, they roister and rankle, laugh and curse until the roof over their heads becomes a home for their hearts.©2002 Tim Winton (P)2008 Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd Family Life Fiction Genre Fiction Literary Fiction Urban Heartfelt

Critic Reviews

AudioFile Earphones Award, Exceptional Audio Performance, 2004

"One of those rare novels that warm the heart, as well as spark the imagination." (Kirkus Reviews)

"Peter Hosking's performance is true to Winton's unsentimental exploration into humankind's ability to love and survive amid adversity.... His characterizations, including an aboriginal ghost and a talking pig, are earthy, real, and frequently hilarious." (AudioFile)

in my opinion up there with Steinbeck !
An Australian history lesson told with a touch of the mystical thrown in...

Exceptional...Best Australian book I have heard.

Loved it! My only comment is about the incorrect pronunciation of several West Australian town names, but otherwise it was a fantastic narration.

Only 1 criticism....

By the end of the story, I loved all of the characters abd each of their quirky traits.

I can see why this book made the top 100 must read

Peter Hosking was perfect as narrator for this delightful, sad, funny and thought-provoking book. I hated walking away from Tim Winton's wonderful writing! Now hungry for every Winton book I've not yet read.

Insightful and engaging

I’ve now done the audio version, excellently narrated(aside from mispronunciation of some towns in WA), having previously read the paperback, watched the stage production and seen the TV series.
I cannot get enough of the Aussie larrikinism and the slang and I need to have my fix of these which sadly are slowing dying in this current different kind of multicultural Australia.
Tim writes like I think. I relate. His writing is pure Aussie and I’ve had belly fulls of laughter listening to the audio version.
Brilliant!

Unadulterated West Australianism
