Publisher's Summary

The passionate and tragic story of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff is one of the high points of nineteenth-century Romantic literature. In the relationship of Cathy and Heathcliff, and in the wild, bleak Yorkshire Moors of its setting, Wuthering Heights creates a world of its own, conceived with a disregard for convention and an instinct for poetry and the darkest depths of the human soul in torment.

An all time classic

My absolute favourite book. I've read it many times and was sceptical that I would enjoy the audiobook because I've tried several narrators and none have done it justice. Patricia Routledge changed my mind. She was wonderful. I highly recommend this version of this wonderful book.

Brilliant narration

I’ve not read Wuthering Heights for many years and loved it in audio format. The narration was perfect.

Very long and dramatic

Fabulous 'view' of the bleakness of the moors which created the perfect atmosphere for a story depicting some seriously despicable people and others slightly deranged. The only really decent person in this story is Nelly through whose eyes the story is told - perhaps Human Nature is the real story here and she's made herself look like a saint. Are the characters based on people who were known to Emily and Charlotte Bronte? I wasn't a fan of the narration. I would've hated to study this in depth at school.

Incredible performance

This amazing story written by a parson’s daughter is brought to life by the inimitable Patricia Routledge. She put her heart and soul into her performance and brought the atmospheric tale to life - I loved it. One I will listen to more than once.
Highly recommended if you love the Bronte books.

Bleak.

What a depressing story. It is well written and the prevaiding bleakness of the landscape and people seeps throughout the story. This bleakness lifts at the end of the book. No wonder people complained about having to study this in high school.

lost in translation

A lot of this narrative was very whiny in the spoken voice. I don't think Wuthering heights translates well in performance. this is a very cerebral story and works best in one's own head. But that's just me.
