Meister Eckhart (um 1260-1327) ist einer der bedeutendsten deutschen Theologen und Philosophen des Mittelalters und der beredteste Verkünder der deutschen Mystik. Die Ideen des religiösen Genies - z. B. die Gottesgeburt in der menschlichen Seele - waren Ausdruck intensivster spiritueller Erlebnisse und derart kraftvoll, dass der bekannte Prediger zwar in Konflikt mit der Inquisition geriet, für die Nachwelt aber bis heute eine außerordentliche Inspirationsquelle blieb.
