Publisher's Summary

"His perfect indifference, and your pointed dislike, make it so delightfully absurd!"

Pride and Prejudice has delighted generations of readers with its unforgettable cast of characters, carefully choreographed plot, and a hugely entertaining view of the world and its absurdities. With the arrival of eligible young men in their neighbourhood, the lives of Mr and Mrs Bennet and their five daughters are turned inside out and upside down. Pride encounters prejudice, upward-mobility confronts social disdain, and quick-wittedness challenges sagacity, as misconceptions and hasty judgements lead to heartache and scandal, but eventually to true understanding, self-knowledge, and love. In this supremely satisfying story, Jane Austen balances comedy with seriousness, and witty observation with profound insight. If Elizabeth Bennet returns again and again to her letter from Mr Darcy, readers of the novel are drawn even more irresistibly by its captivating wisdom.

Great book, great narrator.

I'm so glad that I chose this narration for my favourite novel - I've already listened to it numerous times.

One tiny thing... I can't get used to hearing Lady Catharine's surname being pronounced "de-borg," after decades of knowing it to be pronounced "de-berg" LOL!

An Enjoyable Encounter with a Classic

I greatly enjoyed following the romantic encounters of the Bennett girls, and their associates in this book. It was a very engaging story delightfully expressed in 19th century language and expectations of society.
Jane Austin’s English expression of the period was delightful.
I was keen to read a classic of the period and was more than satisfied with it.
The narration was also excellent but would have liked a slightly greater contrast between the voices of Darcy and Elizabeth.

A great novel beautifully narrated

I loved this book even more than previous readings or movies of it. This time the wonderful narration brought it alive so vividly for me. The characters were so individually different but real for the period in which it was set. Elizabeth Bennett was a marvellous character and perfect for Darcy. Highly recommended.

Perfect in every way

One of my favourite books, perfectly narrated. Lindsay Duncan manages the multitude of characters beautifully. Anxious to find a suitable narrator for such a favourite book, I sample listened to all the other narrators of current P&P audio editions, and mostly winced at either the blandness of tone or hysteria of pitch. None compare to this version in my opinion. Sheer bliss.
