Story
When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

Story
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Editorial reviews
There’s no better way to celebrate Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, his classic contribution to the American literary canon, than to take in the great American novel through prolific actor Elijah Wood’s narration. Wood tackles the unique language and dialect that is a paramount feature of the novel with great energy and enthusiasm. The intricate syntax and word play begs to be read aloud, and Wood is exceptionally at ease with the material. Listening to his rendition of Huck Finn, you feel like you’re on the raft with Huck and Jim, heading down the Mississippi river and anxiously anticipating the many wily individuals they were to encounter on their journey.
A companion piece to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn picks up right where Twain’s previous novel left off. On the banks of the Mississippi river in a small town in Missouri, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn have just intercepted a small treasure from a gang of robbers. While Tom is a middle class country bumpkin, Huck grew up in poverty with a drunken, abusive father. The Widow Douglas adopts Huck with the intention of reforming his “uncivilized” upbringing; but when Huck’s father learns of his shiny new stash of gold, he wants the boy (and his fortune) back under his roof. In the throes of a nasty custody battle, Huck runs away with a neighbor’s slave, Jim. They flee down the Mississippi river in a raft, both with freedom on their minds.
Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a portrait of a time and place — Middle America in the post-Civil War and Reconstruction era. With all the regional slang, distinct voices, and the diversity of characters that Huck and Jim stumble upon on their journey down the Mississippi, the novel is best experienced through the characterizations of skilled voice actor. Wood more than steps up to the challenge, bringing the evolving friendship of Huck and Jim and their adventures on the river to life with sharp historical and literary consciousness. —Suzanne Day
Publisher's Summary
Earphones Award Winner (AudioFile Magazine)
Audible is pleased to announce the premiere of an exciting new series, Audible Signature Classics, featuring literature’s greatest stories, performed by accomplished stars handpicked for their ability to interpret each work in a new and refreshing way. The first book in the series is Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, performed by Elijah Wood.
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this brand new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure. Best of all, the immediacy of Wood’s energetic reading sweeps listeners up and makes them feel as though they’re along for the ride, as Huck and Jim push their raft toward freedom.
Stay tuned for more one-of-a-kind performances from actors Kenneth Branagh, David Hyde Pierce, Leelee Sobieski, and more, only from Audible Signature Classics.

Excellent narration but story too contrived
Parts were great and it had a nice ending, but parts were just too contrived. The racism was confronting and sad – reflecting the evolutionary view that some humans were less developed than others.
Elijah Wood’s narration was masterful – amazing variation and accents.

Rolling down the river
A story for all ages following the adventures of Huck and Jim. I don't know if I ever read this as a child but as an adult it was a fabulous read. Jim and Huck are so loyal to each other and amid all that society imposes on how they should be and what they should do, they listen to their hearts and follow the path (or in this case the mighty Mississippi) doing what is right and what is human. A mad cap time towards the end that beggars belief but what is an adventure without making it the craziest one imaginable. This adventure has survived 140 years and I hope it survives that and more, capturing a time with all its injustices and reminding us all that this journey out of slavery to freedom and to equality is not finished yet but we all can be a Huck Finn and come back to doing what the heart knows is right.

Interesting social snapshot
I found the values of the time difficult to tolerate. What was once amusing is mostly juvenile. Luckily, I liked Huck and his insight, and his goodness.

A classic brought vividly to life.
A confronting story that has stood the test of time. It’s a rollicking boys own adventure story with fascinating insights into the life and politics of the time in America’s Deep South. It has unflinching insights into slavery and racism but with the light touch of a master storyteller. Really well narrated and a good way to rediscover a literary classic.

Loved it!
At first the racism was confronting but also a window into how life was back then. As a black woman, I was not offended in the least. History is what it was and there’s no point pretending it never happened by being offended and embarrassed. This is a lovely story of an unlikely friendship between a black man and a white teenager and it’s a beautiful thing.
Elijah Wood is a superb narrator!! The story is beautifully written and the innocence of the main character was so heartwarming. The friendship between Huck & Jim was wonderful, innocent and very funny at times. The lingo and accents were all very well done! 10/10!!
