Quite a different book to the first in the series following General Mologesh as the main character. There’s still lots of secrets, intrigue and sneaking around in the night, but with a different flavour to City of Stairs. I like the way Robert Jackson Bennett can let this story be dark but not wallow in misery while still creating a really harsh and believable world.
