Comincia così la pagina più tragica della storia delle Olimpiadi e si concluderà 20 ore dopo con 17 morti. In quella squadra c'è anche Shaul Ladany, marciatore che, bambino, fu deportato a Bergen-Belsen, il campo in cui morì Anna Frank. Per la seconda volta Ladany sopravvive alla Storia. La sua vita è stata una lunga sequenza di passi, quasi un Forrest Gump che ha attraversato il XX secolo. "Perché puoi percorrere migliaia di chilometri, ma certe esperienze non le puoi sudare via. Stanno lì a ricordarti che sei vivo."
