Publisher's Summary

When Laurel West discovers her estranged sister Abby has checked herself into rehab and wants her to take care of her 14-year-old son, she doesn’t hesitate to step in. Abby was there for Laurel a long time ago, and she longs to be able to offer the same. However, as a single woman who still dreams of the fairy tale, Laurel isn’t prepared for teenage Zac’s sullen moods or silent rage. When he’s expelled from school, she decides to take drastic measures and temporarily relocate them to her great aunt’s cottage on the windswept hills of the Orkney islands north of Scotland...about as far as she can run from their problems, but will it be far enough?

From the moment they step onto the island’s shores, everything seems to go wrong...including a run-in with eccentric sheep farmer Archie MacDougall. When Zac gets in trouble at the village pub and is rescued by Archie, Laurel thinks things are only getting worse. But Archie’s suggestion of putting Zac to work on his farm might be the change he needs, and Laurel strikes up a surprising friendship with a man who is about as far from the fairy tale as she can imagine.

Can such an unlikely and impractical love bloom in such a brief moment out of reality? And will two lost and lonely souls find each other at the edge of the world?

the name of the book

I really liked this book and the characters. The story was nice and even though predictable, I love a good love story. Cheesy, yes I know but there it is. Oh and anything Scotland is a draw card for me.

Another Great Story Set in the UK.

I’m grateful for the story telling gift that Kate Hewitt has. This is set in a remote area but in the end love conquers the trials and tribulations of daily life. Now it’s time for me to look for another of her audiobooks.

Nice story, narrator made it hard to listen to

A very nice story, full of family and a heartfelt plot. The narrator had a nice voice but added emphasis on too many words where it wasn't needed, almost like the last word of every sentence, which caused some frustration and meant I couldn't just relax and listen.

solid 4 stars

sweet, clean family romance with a hea.
this isn't my normal genre but it was a good listen with enjoyable characters and an easy to follow storyline. narration was a little... blah, but nothing that stopped me from listening.
overall, I have given it 4 stars and would say to give it a listen.

cute story but narrator is distracting

This is a nice light Christmas family and love story. However the narrator had a very distracting posh voice but she reads the Scottish brogue accents well

Feel in love with all of it!

Such a lovely story, beautiful characters that developed into wonderfully good humans along with the setting - I couldn’t put it down.

Lovely Story

This is genuinely a lovely Christmas story, it’s really sweet. The Narrator when she does the narrating bits is difficult to listen to but she does a great Scots accent. After reading Mrswalshie’s review, I turned the speed to 1.2 and incredibly it improved everything. Still a few odd inflections in her tone but so much better. After that I loved this story.

I LOVE THIS WONDERFUL STORY! ❤️🌟❤️🌟❤️🌟❤️🌟❤️🌟

I LOVED this delightful, feel-good Christmas story by Kate Hewitt. I am looking forward to more stories by this talented author.
The narrator Lucy Reyner brought it to life with her absolutely beautiful voice mastering the Scottish brogue & male voices. I did find the need to speed it up, which was no problem!
Don't miss this wonderful heartwarming story!

Nicely presented

A lovely storyline took me away from my home. Into another world of true life issues that would unfold into the way we humans can delve. I truly enjoyed the story

Lovely story but…

I could not handle listening to the narrator dragging out every syllable and over enunciating every word. After the first minute I changed the speed to 1.3x and that made it more like listening to a normal speed so from then on I really enjoyed the story.
