Publisher's Summary

Being kidnapped by aliens is only the start of Jade's problems. Thankfully, her rescuers, an alien race known as the Clecanians, are willing to protect her, but she has to stay on their planet for one year and respect the rules of their culture - including choosing a husband. Jade refuses at first but decides to play along until she can find a way back to Earth.

Theo, a scarred mercenary who prefers a life of solitude, is stunned when Jade selects him as her husband. After years of being passed over, he never imagined he would be chosen and neither did anyone else. Only one explanation makes sense...the curvy enticing female must be a spy, and Theo's determined to break her cover using any means necessary.

As Jade and Theo are forced to spend time together, their chemistry becomes undeniable. But neither can afford to bring love into the equation, especially since Jade seems determined to go home. After all, she can't possibly stay here, right?

Contains mature themes.

Cute story with possibility of more

I found this book while I was in a book slump and needed something. I’m glad I went with it. It is a cute story with nice romance and interesting world building. Though not the intense page turner, it held my interest. Explicit sex scenes were few and not vulgar. My biggest complaint was how much time it seemed to go into politics - such as universal healthcare and whatnot. I don’t read romance fantasy/sci-fi to hear about politics in my own world. I’d be interested in the next book, but not dying for it to come out. Overall, it was entertaining and I found the alien world very interesting with the possibility of more complexities as the series continues.

Very Good but Missing Something

This was a very good romantic story with some appreciated hot spots. However, the aliens were basically humans with cultural differences. I like my aliens with tails, blue skin, horns...you get the point. It’s a sweet story but not one with a lot of adventure or excitement. This is a mild story. I don’t think it’s worth a credit.

Very similar to Grim

It was ok but there were a LOT of similarities to the Tornian series by MK Eidem published in 2013 earth female being captured, to a scarred warrior, to a need for females, plus others. I was picturing Grim through the entire book.

Choosing Theo - Jade and Theo

The title of this book is fitting. Theo was a tough one. He didn’t think anyone really wanted to marry him. He only attended the screening because, by law, he had to. When Jade choose him, he thought she was a spy and did not treat her too well. Something magical ends up happening to Theo and it was so nice. He found his true mate, something that had not happened in a long time. Unfortunately, he really did not appreciate Jade she was taken from him. There are villains right from the beginning. I had no clue until the last quarter of the book. This book has a really nice HEA and I hope we catch up with Jade and Theo in the next book. Stephen Dexter did a great job with the narration.

I LOVED this book!! I want more of this series!

I found this book after endless searching of “sci-fi romance” over and over. I immediately loved this story. Narrator Stephen Dexter is a great story teller and also has that ohh so sexy, deep voice as Theo that makes you melt. The story starts right up with our heroine, Jade, being abducted and she’s not the typical dingy, makes all the wrong choices at every turn, female. She’s smart, funny, and reasonable. Theo is the sexy, bad boy alien who just wants to be left alone to do his job when he is picked by Jade to be her husband. Neither of them see what’s coming next. This story is filled with alien adventure, life and death peril, unabashed desire and unconditional love. Victoria Aveline is a natural story teller and Tantor Audio didn’t disappoint by releasing another exceptional story. I don’t normally write reviews but this book deserves to be shared! Five stars all around ⭐️ I’m getting the next book in the series after I hit submit!

Unfamiliar Author

I was unfamiliar with this writer so I was hesitant about ordering the book. But I’m glad I did. It’s the typical human-alien romance but the story was entertaining. I didn’t want to take a break from listening. The romantic couple’s relationship was so engrossing that I forgot that a mystery had been introduced at the beginning. I wasn’t too sure at first about the narrator but came to enjoy his presentation immensely. He had a soothing narrator’s voice and he made the characters voices different and identifiable.

Cheesy

A very light bit of cheesy predictable fun. Lots of holes in the story and many eye-rolling moments. You can probably find something better to use your credit on.

New Author/ New Series

So happy I chose to pick up this book on Audible! First, the narrator has a great voice, and he really draws you in. Theo and Jade were a perfect couple. They really complimented one another. I thought Theo held a lot of sex appeal without being too overbearing with Jade. Definitely a great first book. (I've already listened to the second and am currently on the third. Gobbling them up!)

Thanks for the great read! And I love the cover.

Familiar trope- but best I’ve read

The whole aliens abduct Earth women because for some reason all the females of their race gone- at first I though, read one, read them all.
But this story had a LOT of heart. Great characters. It was fun and the conversations natural and fun. Actual romance and choice. Not too deep but I really enjoyed it.

Why?

whoever thought it is ok to make a man with beautiful, deep voice, read woman parts was wrong, so wrong! I can't listen to this, it sound ridiculous and squeaky. I really wanted to listen to this book but not like that.

Don't usually do alien 👽 themes but so glad I did

I was nearly put off by other comments about the narrator but I found it more than acceptable. Obviously alien kidnaps human is not a new idea but this book has more to offer than just that. Funny moments, lots of tender moments and I fell in love with the characters. World building was good. Finished book in 24 hours couldn't put it down. Now on to book 2.

Great book

I wish the author had more of an effort in creating a language for the alien race instead of making them speak clear English. However that did not take away from the story. Extremely inter and loved listening to the book.

Love story hate narrator

I already had the Clecanian series as kindle books but love to listen while I'm sewing so was really looking forward to this, the narrator has the voices all wrong - Jade is a strong, intelligent woman and he's made her sound like a weak little girly. I'm not impressed overall with his ability as a narrator, all the women sound the same and there isn't much emotion or change in the tone of his voice. Honestly I could have done a better job for free!!

Fantastic

Yes I know its a cheesy trope Aliens abducting women to save their species . But this one was done with plenty of action and a massive dollop of humour that made me actually laugh out loud 😆.
I loved the choosing where gorgeous guys are paraded in front of assembled females to choose a husband as men outnumber women 20 to one.
The story is fast pace with a lot of action and the sex scenes are hot.
I must praise the narrator Stephen Dexter he really pulled it off, having to be both the hero and the heroine various bad guys an old man and even Theos sister ! Bravo. Great fun.
