Publisher's Summary

In this classic children's book by E. Nesbit, three children are suddenly uprooted from their happy suburban life to move to the country with their mother. Their new house, "Three Chimneys", is near a railway line, and Roberta (Bobbie), Peter and Phyllis (Phil), find amusement in watching the trains and waving to the passengers. They become friendly with Albert Perks, the station porter, and with the Old Gentleman who regularly takes the 9:15 down train. The children get involved in all kinds of good deeds, while their mother is busy writing children books.

Well Narrated With Voices

I very much enjoyed this audio version of The Railway Children.

The author has a light female voice which is ideal for both male and female children. She reads this story, written for children but with a possible appeal to all ages, very well indeed.

The story is about three middle-class town children whose lives change when they have to move to the countryside unexpectedly. There is excitement, fear, concern for others, generosity, quarrelling, making up, adventure and a little hint of first love in this lovely book.

Suitable for children to listen to alone, or as a family project.

Good story

Would you try another book written by E. Nesbit or narrated by Cori Samuel?

I like most of Nesbit's stories but I didn't enjoy the narration - too much 'little girl' voice all the way through, even for Mother, which was very off-putting.

What did you like best about this story?

This story is a classic, which I've loved since childhood and revisit regularly.

Good story

A good, old fashioned story, but narrator's voice was a bit irritating at times. Thanks
