Editorial reviews

Treasure Valley is a beautiful region in the mountains of Styria, but with the greedy Black Brothers in charge, the valley doesn't remain fertile for long. In The King of the Golden River, the long-running selfishness of the Black Brothers finally catches up with them, and their valley is transformed into a dry plane of red sand. Veteran narrators John Chatty and Walter Zimmerman give an engaging performance, stirring to life the evil Black Brothers, the Southwest Wind, the King, and the well-intentioned younger Black Brother, Gluck. Listen along, as the poor, young Gluck must do right and amend the damages his older brothers have wrought.

Publisher's Summary

"The King of the Golden River" is the magical story of a boy named Gluck, his evil brothers, and a dangerous quest to find treasure lurking in the Golden River. It is a classic tale and the only fairy tale the famous English author and critic ever wrote. It could also be classified as a fable or parable since it it explains "how things came to be".
