Editorial reviews
In part two of Susan Fletcher’s Dragon Chronicles, young listeners are presented a conflict of virtues: that between the nurturing compassion of young heroine Kara, possessed of the unique ability to commune with dragons, and the misguided ignorance of King Orrik, dedicated to eradicating the winged beasts from his kingdom. The cruel king recruits Kara, presenting her an unenviable decision: follow her sovereign and forsake her friends of flight, or live as a fugitive among the reviled dragons. Actress Angele Masters is like a sonorous siren, her lilting, singsong cadence providing a captivating canvas for Fletcher’s unique language, almost musical in nature. Indeed, Masters’ old-world theatrics emanate an almost Shakespearean tonality, nevertheless softened by clear diction and fluid storytelling, sure to capture children’s imaginations.
Publisher's Summary
"You must go to the dragon. You must leave tonight."
Before she even hears the words, Kaeldra already knows she must find the mother dragon whose draclings have just hatched and get some of the precious milk in order to save her foster sister’s life. Since Kaeldra can communicate with dragons, she is the only one who can accomplish the task. And so she begins a journey that will entwine her fate with that of three little draclings and one would-be dragon slayer - a journey that will become a struggle for life.

Good book, not first in series
This book has a blurb for both book 1 (Dragons milk) and this book (book 2). Book one doesn’t appear available on audible

Beautiful Clarity
A clearly worded story. Depth of language, some grisly sections and tone more suited to young adult readers rather than ages 6 - 10.

A story of birds and dragons.
This story is about a young woman who is considered weird because of something which happened in her youth. She has discovered she can call birds. The king wants her to call down dragons so they can all be killed as the woman he wants to marry lost her brother when he was killed by dragons and she will only marry him if the dragons are killed to avenge her brother. The story follows the young woman’s adventures. An enjoyable tale.

Nice little story.
Nice story, but not a great deal of depth yet. I like the sorry line. not a lot of character building, more so just descriptions and their reactions to things which were pretty brief.
still enjoyed the listen though.

An enjoyable story.
I enjoyed listening to this book and devoured it! I actually started listening to see if it was suitable for my 10 and 12 year old sons to listen too (they also devour audio books!) I was impressed with the language and the story drew me in. I will also have to listen to the next book in the series!!
